San Juan Health Partners Urgent Care to offer antigen testing

Tests can be used for travel, work or personal knowledge
A drive-thru assessment center for possible COVID-19 testing was set up last year at San Juan Regional Medical Center for people experiencing mild flu- and cold-like symptoms. Beginning this week, the hospital’s urgent care will provide antigen testing for early onset detection.

FARMINGTON – Asymptomatic antigen testing for COVID-19 will be available through San Juan Health Partners Urgent Care beginning Tuesday.

The antigen testing is available for anyone who needs documentation to travel, return to work or if they believe they were exposed, according to a news release from San Juan Regional Medical Center.

The test is not the same as the test that detects the presence of COVID-19, the polymerase chain reaction test, though the hospital and its partner urgent care will still test and treat for active infections.

“We want everybody across the board – symptomatic, asymptomatic – to continue those precautions,” said Dr. Sugar Singleton with San Juan Health Partners Urgent Care.

Monica Nagahiro, manager of the urgent care, said in an email Monday it is essential to continue to test people. Patients are notified of results within 24 hours of the test.

“Most importantly, catching asymptomatic positive people is vital to early intervention and quarantine,” Nagahiro said.

Nagahiro said if asymptomatic carriers who test positive quarantine early, it can decrease the spread of COVID-19.

Tests are available by appointment only. They can be made by calling (505) 609-6495 and cost $125.
