Runners excel at Ridgway

Girls and boys take second

The Mancos cross-country team traveled to Ridgway State Park last Friday for the Ramble at the Reservoir, and both teams took home silver.

The girls had three runners finish in the top 10 on their way to a second-place team finish.

Emma Most led the Lady Blue Jays with a third-place finish (26:01), with Kaylee Rose close behind in fifth place (26:58).

Jessalyn Bay-Voit rounded out the team with an eighth-place finish (30:55).

The boys' team also finished in second, and they were led by Simon Kearns' third-place time of 20:27.

Jake McKie crossed the line in seventh (21:10), Teslin Stecher finished 15th (22:41), and Caleb Yoder followed in 20th (23:06).

Zane Wilson (25:38), Alex Fleitz (26:44) and Daniel San Miguel (32:26) finished in 29th, 30th and 31st, consecutively.

"This course is pretty tough," head coach Brady Archer said in an e-mail. "It involves a tough climb right at the start. It was a pretty small meet, and we only ran half of the team but we still had good results.

"Jake McKie and Kaylee Rose both ran excellent races today and really helped the teams place well."

The Blue Jays have two meets coming up this week.

First, they will run at the John Thornton Invitation in Blanding, Utah, on Wednesday, Sept. 23, before making their way to Pagosa Springs for the Pagosa Springs Classic on Saturday, Sept. 26.
