Conquistador pro battles challenging course, falls three shots short

For the second time in two years at a senior circuit major, Cortez’s Micah Rudosky fired shot-for-shot with some of the all-time greats, battling for a coveted spot in the tournament's weekend action.

Much like he had in the 2022 Senior PGA Championship, Rudosky played out his final holes on Friday’s cut day at the 2023 U.S. Senior Open within striking distance of a top 60 spot in the 156-player field.

A back nine rally gave Rudosky a chance at his first ever major cut, but the course at SentryWorld in Stevens Point, Wisconsin, posed too much of an obstacle to overcome, as Rudosky finished with a round of 79 on Friday, and a two-day total of +12, three shots short of the cut.

Part of the last group to tee off Friday, Rudosky battled through a difficult front nine, dropping shots on three of the first five holes, and heading to the back nine at +11, two shots behind the projected cut line.

The Conquistador professional responded with a pair of birdies to open the back nine, and place himself back on the right side of the cut line.

In the end, however, it wasn't meant to be. In spite of playing +2 total on the back nine over both days, Rudosky fell just shy of making it to the championship weekend.

SentryWorld made life difficult for the whole field, with just five players playing the opening 36 holes under par. Over the course of two days, Rudosky ranked among the event leaders in driving distance.
