Rotary Clubs seek help with Imagination Library

Imagination Library, a community service project sponsored by the Cortez and Dolores Rotary Clubs, is making a holiday push for donations to its childhood-reading project.

The program, started by the Dolly Parton Foundation, provides a book a month to children from birth until their fifth birthday. Books are free to children, with the only requirement being that they reside in Montezuma County.

“We are thrilled that we currently have 600 children enrolled in the program, with over 750 children enrolled since the program’s inception in late 2012,” Karen Sheek said. “Experts agree that getting books into the hands of children is one of the best ways to foster a love of reading and to develop good reading habits.”

There is no cost to families to participate in the program, there is an annual charge per child of $25, which the Cortez and Dolores Rotary Clubs raise monies to cover.

“As we enter the holiday season, please consider giving the gift of reading to a young child, and make a donation to the Imagination Library,” Sheek said.
