Robbery turned shooting leaves one dead, shooter on the loose

Incident occurred Sunday night in Pagosa Springs

A robbery turned shooting Sunday night in Pagosa Springs has left one dead, with the suspect reportedly on the loose.

Archuleta County Coroner Dan Keuning said Larry Fisher, 71, of Pagosa Springs was shot during an attempted robbery at the Ski & Bow Rack at 354 East Pagosa St. Fisher is the owner of the store.

The shooting occurred around 9:30 p.m. Sunday, Keuning said. Fisher was flown to the trauma center at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Lakewood, where he was later pronounced dead around 4:30 a.m.

Fisher was shot once in the chest, Keuning said. An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday morning.

Keuning said the incident is being investigated as a homicide, and directed all inquiries about the investigation to the Pagosa Springs Police Department and Colorado Bureau of Investigation.

Andrea Phillips, Pagosa Springs town manager, said Monday morning the shooting suspect remains on the loose.

He was wearing a camouflage hoodie and jeans, Phillips said. The man is considered armed and dangerous, and should not be approached.

“A possible vehicle is being sought in connection with the incident: a late '80s white Toyota Forerunner or Nissan Pathfinder – very muddy, with possible homemade camouflage on the bottom of the vehicle and a roof rack,” police said.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Archuleta Combined Dispatch at 731-2160.
