Dolores has a traffic light.
That's right: Our small town got its very own traffic light this week.
Nevermind that the light was erected as part of a Colorado Department of Transportation project on the Highway 145 bridge.
Nancy Shanks, communications manager at the Colorado Department of Transportation, reports the signal will likely be in place into May.
The project includes bridge repair, resurfacing, drainage control and weatherproofing on Highway 145 from Dolores to Cortez.
Expect delays.
The work is contracted to Skanska Civil USA West Rocky Mountain District for $5.7 million and is expected to be completed in mid-August.
The project will resurface the roadway, providing a leveling course to smooth the surface and correct rough roadway; patch and improve drainage in damaged areas; rehabilitate the bridge deck, including weatherproofing and new bridge rail; and correct the curve at Road P. ADA ramps at sidewalks on Highway 145 in Cortez will also be installed.
Shanks said one of the more important portions is the curve near Road P known as "Myler's Corner."
I have seen a fair share of people slide off the curve on snowy days. Shanks said the construction should bank the curve, making it safer and easier to drive.
In the meantime, Dolores can rest assured that another light won't be around again for any time soon.
Dustin Beltran's landmark run
Congratulations to Dustin Beltran for placing fourth at the Middle School State Wrestling Championships.
This is the first time a Dolores Middle School student has placed at a state competition.
