River permit party features hit country band

Connect with boaters, learn about river permits

The

The event features films, food, drinks, a silent auction with river-themed items and live music by Halden Wofford and the Hi Beams. The Dolores River does not require a permit, but there will be information on the regional rivers that do.

The event is a chance to meet new boaters, plan river adventures and connect with the local river-running community.

Every year at the Permit Party, a community slideshow of Dolores River photos is presented at the beginning of the event.

If you want to include any of your favorite Dolores River photos, send them to amber@doloresriverboating.org The pictures will be used for the slideshow only.

“It’s cool to see all the different experiences, people, and places captured in one place,” states DRBA’s Facebook page.

Halden Wofford and the Hi Beams are sure to make the event a blast. The popular Denver-based honky-tonk band performs a brand of country that is equal parts Hank Williams and Johnny Depp, “as boundless and electrifying as American itself,” according to their website.

Frontman Halden Wofford pours forth a potent mix of rocked-up honky-tonk, Western swing, Dylanesque originals and spaghetti Western epics.

“Each outrageous tale he spins is met by the whine and wail of the steel guitar, the furious double-neck electric guitar and mandolin, and the relentless thump of the upright bass and drums,” the website says.

The band has performed at Red Rocks, the Fillmore, on the back of a flatbed truck and on “Prairie Home Companion.”

Advance tickets for the permit party and concert are $12, or $15 at the door. Go to the website of the Dolores River Boating Advocates to buy online.
