In celebration of National Volunteer Week, April 15-21, Colorado School and Public Employees Retirement Association recognizes the 33,934 volunteer hours donated to their communities across the state thus far this membership year.
“Once again our volunteers across the state of Colorado made us proud,” said Executive Director Karen Magnuson. “A total of 85,858 hours was turned in this year (2017). When a local community is in need of a volunteer, they call on CSPERA to help deliver.”
CSPERA’s volunteer efforts resulted in the “With Our Youth Award,” an award given by the National Retired Teachers association, AARP’s education committee, to recognize the retired educators who serve as champions in communities.
The local unit, MSPERA of CSPERA, has donated more than over 7,000 hours this year to organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, Madison House Assisted Living, local schools and churches, Bridge Emergency Shelter, Southwest Colorado Canyons Alliance, CANM Site Steward.
