Resident honored for business

Erin Neer

MUNIRevs Founder and CEO, Erin Neer was chosen by Colorado Biz Magazine as one of the 25 Most Influential Young Professionals in Colorado. Neer, former Finance Director for Mountain Village in Telluride, was chosen from among over 300 applicants in the state. The Top 25 will meet one another and receive awards at a ceremony on Oct. 2 at the Mile High Station in downtown Denver.

Neer is a Dolores resident.

Neer explains, "The process is quite competitive and required us to write essay responses explaining our accomplishments. We were chosen because what we're doing is very innovative and unheard of in our industry."

MUNIRevs provides a paperless business review solution for Colorado municipalities. Colorado is one of the few states that still allow municipalities to collect, monitor and audit sales tax revenues.

"We are proud to serve our communities and create jobs here," Neer said.

From her vantage point in Mountain Village, she envisioned easier and faster ways to solve sales tax questions and thus devised the paperless process for municipalities to process the huge amount of revenue they collect. Her unique, streamlined method eliminates the need for businesses to mail in their taxes and the need for municipal staff to manually open the mail, key it in and process the payments.

"Businesses appreciated the ability to go paperless, and to file their taxes and fill out forms online 24/7," she said.

MUNIRevs, short for Municipal Revenues, currently serves over 10,000 businesses in Colorado. They process $1.5 million in revenue every month facilitating the process for towns saving time and man-hours.

A new offering that MUNIRevs will roll out in the fourth quarter of 2014 is an Event Impact Tracker. This module, which has been utilized for several years by MUNIRevs tax clients, will now be available as a standalone module for communities who do not collect business revenues such as sales tax. This Economic Impact Model is particularly of interest to towns that "are event heavy communities."

These towns are usually heavy tourist destinations, such as Durango and Telluride.
