Rescue crews respond to crashes in Montezuma County

Icy roads linger from Sunday storm
Law enforcement and rescue crews responded to a one-vehicle crash on County Road G on Monday afternoon in icy conditions. The driver was uninjured and received a citation for careless driving.

Rescue crews responded to two crashes Monday that occurred on icy roads in Montezuma County.

At 9:20 a.m. a two-vehicle crash in icy conditions caused an injury on Colorado Highway 145 at milepost 39 east of Stoner, according to Colorado State Patrol Trooper Josh Lewis.

A 69-year-old woman driving a Nissan sedan was taken to Southwest Memorial Hospital. The other driver, a 32-year-old woman driving a truck, was uninjured, according to the initial report. Both vehicles were towed. No other information was available because the crash remains under investigation.

Dolores Volunteer Fire and Rescue, the State Patrol, and Southwest Memorial Hospital responded to the incident.

Around 1 p.m. a man driving westbound on County Road G lost control on a curve and crashed into a ditch.

The truck rolled onto its side, and the driver was uninjured. He was issued a citation for careless driving, said Trooper James Proctor of the Colorado State Patrol. The road was icy in places. Cortez Fire Protection District, the State Patrol, Montezuma County Sheriff’s Office and Southwest Health System ambulance responded.

“It’s a reminder that during icy conditions, keep your speed down to prevent an accident,” Proctor said.
