Renewables can improve economy, environment

Thank you Kinder-Morgan for cutting natural gas production by 36% in 2021. Two million dollars is a small price to pay for cleaner air, water and land. The $2 million budget shortfall was covered by pandemic recovery funds from the federal American Rescue Plan and the state. Your tax dollars at work for Montezuma County.

It showed the need for diversifying our economy, so the county plans to hire an economic development director. The proposed replacement of the San Juan Generating Station with the Four Corners Solar Center is a great example of caring for the environment and the economy. If we transition to renewables, we can ensure that climate change effects like drought and fire will be reduced. We can leave a better home for future generations.

“In the long term, the economy and the environment are the same thing. If it’s unenvironmental, it is uneconomical. That is the rule of nature.” – Mollie H. Beattie, first female director of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
