Students in pre-K through 12th grade residing in Montezuma and Dolores counties must register today to be guaranteed school supplies at the Backpack and School Supply Giveaway Saturday in Cortez.
The giveaway, hosted by the Montelores Early Childhood Council, is 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 3 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 208 N. Dolores Road.
The Childhood Council is hosting the giveaway in conjunction with Osprey Packs, Onward!, the LOR Foundation and The Salvation Army to help prepare students for the new school year.
Preregistration closes today, and organizers encourage parents to preregister their student to get a backpack and supplies. Without preregistration, supplies are available on first-come, first-served basis
While preregistration does not guarantee that the student will receive an Osprey pack, it does guarantee a backpack and supplies.
Preregistered items must be picked up 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, unless other arrangements are made. If a preregistered pack is not picked up by 2 p.m. Saturday, it will be given to someone else.
“We will provide as many supplies as we can to those who do not preregister, first-come, first-served until supplies run out,” organizers said.
