City resumes recycling pickup, but drop-off remains paused

The Montezuma County Landfill’s baler has been repaired, and residential recycling pickup resumed Aug. 22, several months after the machine started malfunctioning.

To let the city to play catch-up, drop-off recycling at the service center remains closed.

Clean, lidless glass jars and bottles and “office paper mix” – things like magazines, mail and office paper (not newspaper) – are recyclable in residential bins only.

They also take a mix of cardboard, aluminum cans, tin/steel/ferrous metals and Types 1 and 2 plastic. For a more detailed description of accepted items, refer to the recycling page on the city of Cortez’s website.

To get a household recycling bin, call (970) 564-4012.
