Community members will have the opportunity to ask questions about the county-wide sales tax on the ballot this November.
Montezuma County’s League of Women Voters is putting on the event at the Sunflower Theatre on Tuesday, Oct. 15 at 6 p.m.
A Q & A will follow a slideshow presentation. County Commissioner Jim Candelaria and Sheriff Steve Nowlin will be there to field specific questions.
Revenue from the proposed tax would benefit the Sheriff’s Office, Detention Center and the county’s drug task force.
“People can be adverse to tax increases, but when you pay taxes, you support services for the whole community,” said Karen Sheek, the leader of Montezuma County’s LWV. “Law enforcement services are some most of us don’t want to be without.”
