Purgatory Resort will extend its skiing and snowboarding season into May for the first time.
Mountain officials announced Friday that the resort will remain open for two more Saturdays, concluding the historic 2018-19 season May 4.
Purgatory Village Express (Lift 1) will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. both Saturdays and nearly half of the mountain will be open Saturday, including five terrain parks. The resort’s mid-mountain base depth is 55 inches.
During the 2018-19 season, the resort received 359 inches – nearly 30 feet – of snow, which has happened only two other times since the resort opened in 1965. While Purgatory does not release skier-visit data, the area saw double-digit growth over last year, said Dave Rathbun, Purgatory’s general manager.
“We haven’t seen snow like this in over 40 years,” Rathbun said. “In March alone, we received more than 100 inches of snowfall, which hasn’t happened here since 1979. Our guests and loyal pass holders will be talking about this season for years to come – and we’re thrilled to be able to share these great conditions in the month of May for the first time in our history.”
Discounted lift tickets will be available at the window: $49 for adults (18-64), $37 for teens (13-17), $32 for kids (ages 11-12), $39 for seniors (ages 65-79) and people 80 and older ski free.
Kids 10 and younger receive a free Power Kids season pass that will be valid for the remainder of the season at all MCP family ski areas, as well as the 2019-20 season. No parent purchase is required.
