I recently attended an “on the road” meeting with the county commissioners at Breen. It was well-attended and the community was chomping at the bit to talk about the Hesperus Solar project.
After hearing from the commissioners, I am very disappointed in the way the county is handling this project. Primergy submitted its application in November 2022. Primergy was then notified in January that it had more than 100 deficiencies. According to Chapter 69-12 of the Land Use Code, Primergy then had an additional 60 days to address these deficiencies. Per the code, if not addressed, the application was to be withdrawn. Sixty days ended in March. This is July and the county is still allowing the application to be considered. Primergy’s application should have been thrown out. Period. The county isn’t following its own rules!
Primergy can’t even follow guidelines for the application, so what are we to expect from this company if it were to pass? Who will hold the hand of the company and make sure it follows the rules? Per the commissioners, “our county is severely understaffed.” Does the county have our best interest at heart or will it put an out-of-state business endeavor with no benefit (but 500,000 glaring problems) to our county ahead of our interests?
The sad thing about this project is that it won’t be green energy. It won’t benefit our community or Colorado; it all goes somewhere else. They get the goldmine and we get the shaft!
