On Wednesday, the Dolores Ranger District started and finished planned prescribed fires at Salter Y.
They burned the 1,280-acre area they intended to, located about 15 miles east of Cahone, north of McPhee Reservoir.
“Firefighters will now patrol and mop up along the edges of the burn while the low-intensity fire continues to clean up interior pockets of vegetation,” said Lorena Williams, a U.S. Forest Service communications specialist in an email.
Since Sept. 25 was the only day of firing operations, smoke in the air will drop significantly “as the fire naturally runs out of available fuels,” Wiliams said.
