Power outage caused by lightning strike

On the evening of Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2013, Empire Electric experienced an outage caused by a fast moving lighting and windstorm.

The affected area stretched from Pleasant View in the north and extended to Colorado Highway 145 in the east and County Road M to the south.

Beginning at 6:42 p.m., 1,550 consumers were out of power approximately 30 minutes as the storm caused damage to a transmission line pole that serves the substations to those areas. Working in coordination with Tri-State Generation and Transmission, the problem was located and that section of transmission line was isolated.

Power was restored at 7:09 p.m. After power restoration, the crews were dispatched and repaired the damaged transmission pole. System operations were brought back to normal conditions later in the evening.
