Pottery, photography, painting on tap at Painted Turtle

Painted Turtle Studio and Gallery has several art workshop opportunities coming up, including an intermediate wheel class.

For artistic folks around town, the Painted Turtle Studio and Gallery at 100 W. Grand Ave. has multiple classes and events coming up.

Stephanie Guttenplan will teach a basic digital photography course on Tuesdays from 6-7:30 p.m. starting next week and lasting through Feb. 12. The class costs $100 and will cover the basic elements that create a photograph, along with the technical features and capabilities of your camera and lens.

Also at the studio starting next week, Kathryn Fulton will lead an intermediate “Beyond the Cylinder” wheel class, where students will be able to move beyond the basics to craft unique pottery gifts and items. Basic wheel experience is required for this course, which costs $150, plus a $50 firing-fee deposit. Clay is not included in this price, but is available for purchase at the Painted Turtle: $12 per 25 pounds of reconditioned clay, or $17 for the same amount of new clay.

“Beyond the Cylinder” will take place Thursdays from Jan. 24 through Feb. 28.

And this Sunday, locals can take up paintbrushes and join the studio for “Paint and Sip with Breezy,” where they can paint a snowman and enjoy complimentary refreshments. The event costs $35 and will begin at 3:30 p.m.
