Police identify man killed in Pagosa Springs crash

Rollover accident occurred in town limits, near RV park

A 39-year-old Pagosa Springs man died Monday after his vehicle went off U.S. Highway 160 in Pagosa Springs, according to the Pagosa Springs Police Department.

Chief W. Rockensock said in a prepared statement that around 8:10 a.m., authorities received a report of a rollover crash near mile marker 142 on Highway 160.

Mile marker 142 is within Pagosa Springs city limits, near the Cool Pines RV Park, in an area known locally as Put Hill.

The Colorado Department of Transportation mistakenly reported Monday morning the crash occurred at mile marker 147, which is a few miles east of town.

Rockensock said initial reports indicated there was debris off the north side of a curve. Officers arrived to find the only occupant of the vehicle had been ejected, and was deceased on arrival.

The Pagosa Springs Police Department identified the man as Tuan Thanh Nguyen, of Pagosa Springs. He was driving a Land Rover Range Rover with New Mexico plates, authorities said.

The case was under investigation, and Pagosa Springs Police Department said it had no further information to release as of Monday afternoon.

As a result of the crash, Highway 160 was closed until about 10:30 a.m., according to CDOT.
