COLORADO SPRINGS – Colorado Springs police officers have fatally shot a man believed to be involved in a road-rage incident outside a Fort Carson entrance, authorities said.
Police responded to a report Wednesday around 4:45 a.m. about a verbal altercation in a parking lot near State Highway 115, The Gazette reported.
Police spokeswoman Natashia Kerr said the driver of a car told arriving officers they were the victim of a road rage incident involving a gun and the other vehicle left the scene.
Kerr said the other vehicle was chased down the highway and ended at Fort Carson near a housing area where two officers shot at the driver who got out of his vehicle holding a gun. No officers were injured.
The suspect has not yet been identified. It is unclear where the suspect was hit or by how many bullets.
Kerr said the two officers were placed on administrative leave, a routine process when deadly force is used.
The El Paso County sheriff’s office is investigating the shooting.
