Police fatally shoot carjacking suspect after fatal burglary

DENVER – Denver police officers fatally shot a man who appeared to be trying to steal a car shortly after they responded to a nearby burglary where a homeowner was found dead on Monday, police said.

Police found the man, who had been shot, and a woman who was critically wounded at the home where the burglary had been reported, Division Chief Ron Thomas said. As officers arrived, one person ran from the house and was caught a block away, he said. At about the same time he was arrested, officers heard shots fired as a man was apparently trying to steal a car, Thomas said. That man was shot by officers and later died at the hospital.

Investigators believe the attempted carjacking is related to the burglary, Thomas said.
