Sunday, Dec. 20

2:03 p.m. Multiple cats and dogs left abandoned at a residence on the 30 block of W. Seventh Street after an eviction were transported to the Cortez Animal Shelter.

Monday, Dec. 21

2:10 p.m. A man was arrested and charged with disturbing the peace and resisting arrest after police responded to a disturbance at the hospital. The man reported that he injected himself with heroin that he found inside the bathroom at Wal-Mart.

3:28 p.m. A vehicle passenger was arrested on an outstanding warrant after a traffic stop near East Montezuma Avenue and North Park Street. The driver was issued a warning for following too close.

3:45 p.m. A man wearing a pink glove was arrested and charged with assault and child abuse after he allegedly punched a woman in the face while she held a three-year-old along the 10 block of South Mildred Road. The woman suffered minor injuries, and her eyeglasses valued at $288 were damaged.

5:50 p.m. A scooter valued at $69 was reported stolen from the Cortez Rec Center.

Tuesday, Dec. 22

8:35 a.m. A man was arrested on an outstanding warrant at a residence on the 800 block of North Edith Street.

1:21 p.m. A woman was ticketed for shoplifting at City Market. She reportedly stole a bottle of mouthwash. After fleeing the scene, a male accomplice was subsequently arrested and charged with shoplifting.

2:13 p.m. A man was ticketed for open container and alcohol possession in Centennial Park.

Wednesday, Dec. 23

1:17 p.m. A woman was ticketed for shoplifting after attempting to steal leggings valued at $25 from Wal-Mart.

6:51 p.m. A man was arrested and charged with harassment, disorderly conduct and protection-order violation after police responded to a fight at The Bridge Emergency Shelter. The man reportedly spit on another shelter resident. He was also served with a trespass notice.

Saturday, Dec. 26

10:14 a.m. A man was arrested and charged with assault and domestic violence after police responded to an assault at Southwest Memorial Hospital. With a bruised and swollen eye, a woman reported that she was punched in the face on Christmas Eve after the man was unable to get an erection during a sexual encounter at Cortez Apartments.

1:56 p.m. A woman was arrested and charged with intoxicated pedestrian in a roadway after she walked into oncoming traffic on the 700 block of North Mildred Road.

Sunday, Dec. 27

2 p.m. A man was arrested and charged with vehicular eluding, reckless driving, obstruction, driving with a suspended license and running a stop sign after leading police on a high speed pursuit that originated on the 2200 block of East Main Street. Police noted the man crashed into a snow bank when entering a driveway on the 13000 block of Colorado 145. The driver and two passengers each fled the scene on foot. A search warrant was requested after a K-9 unit alerted on the vehicle. Both passengers were released.

Monday, Dec. 28

7:59 p.m. A man was arrested and charged with disturbing the peace and intoxicated pedestrian in a roadway after police responded to a disturbance on the 100 block of Jackson Street.

9:27 p.m. A man was arrested and charged with trespassing after drinking a bottle of mouthwash inside the entryway at Wal-Mart.

Tuesday, Dec. 29

9:30 a.m. The Aneth Lodge reported a door valued at $150 was damaged, the bedding stained and an unknown liquid on the wall of a hotel room.

10:04 a.m. A man was arrested on an outstanding warrant after police observed him driving near North Beech and East North streets.

1:23 p.m. A man shoveling snow at Four Corners Community Bank was arrested on an outstanding warrant.

2:27 p.m. The Monte Vista Police Department reported the arrest of a man and woman in possession of stolen checks and eight iPad Air devices belonging to the Children’s Kiva Montessori School. The suspects told authorities that they found a door to the school unlocked. After being notified of the theft, school officials reported that two file cabinet keys, four thumb drives and an ATM card were also missing. A $44 check written to Family Dollar was cancelled.

2:38 p.m. A woman was ticketed for alcohol possession in City Park after police reportedly conducted a welfare check on a male subject lying near an undisclosed road. No details were provided about the male subject.

Wednesday, Dec. 30

10:13 a.m. A woman was arrested on two outstanding warrants after police observed her driving along the 100 block of W. Main Street.

8:35 p.m. A man was arrested and charged with DUI, no insurance and weaving after a traffic stop on the 600 block of S. Chestnut Street.

Thursday, Dec. 31

12:09 p.m. A woman was arrested on an outstanding warrant after she went to retrieve a Christmas gift from her daughter at the Chevron Station on South Broadway. The woman was also charged with drug possession. Another woman was also arrested and charged with drug trafficking, drug possession, drug paraphernalia and violating bond conditions. Police reported confiscating multiple syringes, spoons, a half-gram of meth, a portable scale, a single hydrocodone pill and a .22 caliber long barrel pistol.

1:50 p.m. A man was arrested on three outstanding warrants at a residence on the 500 block of North Elm Street.

4:03 p.m. A man was arrested and charged with disturbing the peace. and another man arrested and charged with DUI after police responded to a disturbance on 300 block of S. Beech Street.

4:31 p.m. A woman was arrested and charged with assault, trespass, resisting arrest and underage consumption of alcohol after police responded to a trespass call at the Seventh Street Mobile Home Park. The woman reportedly led police on a foot pursuit before kicking an officer in the face and chest. Once in leg restraints, the woman reportedly spit on an officer and bit another officer’s shoulder.

4:53 p.m. A man was arrested and charged with DUI and unsafe backing at Sleeping Ute Apartments.

7:12 p.m. A woman was arrested on an outstanding warrant after police found her hugging a telephone pole while on her knees near the intersection of E. First and S. Madison streets.

Friday, Jan. 1

1:01 a.m. Two men received medical treatment after police responded to a disturbance at the Happy Valley Trailer Park. A chunk of one man’s lip was reportedly missing after he was hit in the face with a hammer. Another man was choked, dragged outside the residence and thrown off a porch.

7:47 a.m. A woman was arrested on an outstanding warrant at The Knights Inn.

11 p.m. A man was arrested and charged with violating a protection order after police observed him make a U-turn on S. Beech Street near the Post Office.

Saturday, Jan. 2

1:07 a.m. A woman was arrested and charged with assault after allegedly stabbing a man and woman at the Sleeping Ute Apartments. Police reported that the woman was having sex with a boyfriend before stabbing a male resident and another woman while she slept. A bloody 3-inch folding knife was seized.

10:53 p.m. A juvenile was arrested and charged with DUI, vehicular eluding, reckless driving, resisting arrest, obstruction, violating a protection-order and displaying an expired tag after leading police in a pursuit through residential areas south of Main Street. The driver reportedly crashed into a curb near Manaugh Elementary School before fleeing on foot. A juvenile passenger was ticked for illegal possession of alcohol by a minor and drug paraphernalia and was released to a guardian.

Sunday, Jan. 3

3:48 p.m. A man was arrested and charged with DUI, no insurance, driving without a license and careless driving causing bodily injury in connection to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of North Sligo and East Main streets. An eyewitness reported the man ran a red light. One person suffered bumps and bruises and another a broken rib.

Monday, Jan. 4

12:10 p.m. While out of town on Christmas vacation, a woman reported a ring valued at $899, a bracelet valued at $300, a bracelet valued at $1,500, a diamond ring valued at $899 and a diamond ring valued at $9,000 were stolen from a residence on the 600 block of E. Fourth Street.

2:42 p.m. A vehicle passenger was arrested on an outstanding warrant after a traffic stop for window tint violation along the 100 block of E. Main Street. After a K-9 unit alerted on the vehicle, the passenger was also charged with drug possession, drug paraphernalia and violation of bail bond conditions. Police reported finding cut straws, a digital scale and an oxycodone pill. The driver was released and ordered to remove the window tint.

3:42 p.m. A man was arrested and charged with intoxicated pedestrian in a roadway after police responded to a disturbance at Handy Mart.

4:27 p.m. A woman reported that a Samsung Galaxy 4 was stolen from her automobile on New Year’s Eve along the 500 block of E. Arbecam Avenue.

Tuesday, Jan. 5

8:16 p.m. A man reported that a neighbor’s dog bit him on the leg at Cortez Apartments. The boxer mix, named Stanley, was reportedly rescued after it was used in training pit bulls to fight. Police ordered the dog be quarantined for 24 hours.
