10:11 a.m. An officer took a report for two stolen firearms from a couple in the 1300 block of Melrose Street.
8:29 p.m. A man was arrested on suspicion of violating a protection order violation that states he shall not purchase, possess or consume alcohol, controlled substances or a firearm or other weapon, displaying expired temporary permit, driving on a suspended license, and failing to present proof of insurance near mile marker 39 on Highway 160.
2 a.m. An officer arrested a man on suspicion of DUI, failing to present proof of insurance, weaving, possessing open container in a motor vehicle, and driving without a valid license near mile marker 34 on Highway 160.
3:40 a.m. A woman was arrested on suspicion of DUI, careless driving causing injury and violating an alcohol protection order near the Rust Trailer Park, 621 N. Elm St.
10:06 a.m. An officer cited a man with backing vehicle in parking area when unsafe and operating an uninsured motor vehicle at Slavens True Value Hardware, 237 W. Main St.
1:21 p.m. An officer took a report for fraud in the 200 block of Arbecam Ave.
2:23 p.m. An officer arrested a man on suspicion of third-degree assault and domestic violence. The officer also arrested the woman he was with on suspicion of third-degree assault, domestic violence and violating an alcohol protection order in the 600 block of Montezuma Ave.
4:54 p.m. An officer arrested a man on a warrant and cited him with shoplifting and trespassing at the Speedway, 921 E. Main St.
10:45 p.m. An officer arrested a woman on suspicion of DUI, driving vehicle with ability impaired by alcohol or drugs, and open alcoholic beverage container at the Happy Valley Trailer Park, 203 E. Seventh St.
5:41 a.m. Officers responded to an active security alarm at the Cortez Public Library, 202 N. Park St.
11:30 a.m. A man was cited with shoplifting at Walmart, 1835 E. Main St.
11:36 a.m. An officer took a report for a shoplifting incident that happened in June at Walmart, 1835 E. Main St. The officer watched surveillance footage where a man is emptying a box of .30-caliber rifle bullets into his pocket and discarding the empty box into a cart. The officer contacted the man in the video by telephone after running his license plate number and obtaining his information through the city’s vehicle registration information database. The officer stated the man agreed to stop in the police department the following day. The report then states on July 14 the man did not contact the Cortez Police Department. The officer attempted contact multiple times, leaving voice mails, and stated he would seek an arrest warrant based on the surveillance video.
8:03 p.m. An officer arrested a man on a warrant at the Colorado West Trailer Park, 1410 N. Mildred Road.
8:40 p.m. An officer took a report for up to $400 in property damage by graffiti from blue spray paint at the Seventh Day Adventist, 540 W. Fourth St. The officer also noted a stop sign, a sidewalk, and a speed limit sign were also vandalized with the same markings of “X 13.”
9:36 p.m. An officer arrested a man on a warrant at Calkins Commons, 121 E. First St.
8:53 a.m. An officer took a report for property damage by hit-and-run in the 500 block of Madison St.
12:07 p.m. An officer arrested a man on suspicion of violating a protection order that states he shall not possess or consume alcoholic beverages or controlled substances and issued the man a weeklong trespass order from all city parks at the Cortez City Pool, 803 E. Montezuma Ave.
1:09 p.m. An officer cited a man with trespassing at the Cortez Welcome Center, 928 E. Main St.
3:12 p.m. An officer arrested a man on suspicion of violating bail bond conditions, possessing and open container, and unlawful possession of marijuana at the corner of E. Main St. and N. Mildred Road.
3:57 p.m. An officer took a report for a shoplifting incident at Walmart, 1835 E. Main St.
9:11 p.m. An officer arrested a man on a warrant and took a report for an active fight that was unfounded at Veterans Park, 830 E. Main St.
5:22 a.m. A man who was noncompliant and yelling while throwing trash and picking up large rocks outside Garcia & Co. Jewelers, 450 E. Main St., was arrested on suspicion of disturbing the peace and littering.
5:34 a.m. An officer arrested a man on suspicion of trespassing outside of the Super 8 Motel, 505 E. Main St.
9:42 a.m. An officer took a report for up to $250 of property damage by graffiti from blue spray-painted “MS13” and “13” on the property of the Cortez Middle School, 201 S. Pine St.
11:43 a.m. An officer took a report for property damage at the Post Office, 35 S. Beech St.
6:32 p.m. An officer cited a man with trespassing at the Speedway, 921 E. Main St.
9:10 p.m. An officer cited a man at Veterans Park, 830 E. Main St., with shoplifting and possessing an open container after a report of shoplifting was received from Liquid Assets Liquor Store, 718 E. Main St. The officer also cited a man for open containers and possession of alcohol in the park to another man in the park who was witnessed pouring a beer into a Pepsi cup.
2:06 a.m. An officer cited a man with operated uninsured motor vehicle, failed to signal as required, displayed expired number plates, drove vehicle while license under suspension, and drove a defective vehicle in the 400 block of N. Mildred Road.
5:05 a.m. An officer arrested a man on suspicion of second-degree assault on a peace officer, obstructing a peace officer, resisting arrest and second degree criminal trespass after officers noticed him entering a vehicle that did not belong to him. The officer also included the actions of another officer who issued a citation to another man that was sitting in the vehicle the other man was seen unlawfully entering, the man was cited with second-degree criminal trespassing.
8:54 a.m. An officer cited a woman with maintenance of animals that disturb the peace at 23 Lakeside Drive after a report for her dogs barking in the middle of the night.
9:55 a.m. An officer served a warrant to a woman in the custody of the Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St.
1:25 p.m. An officer arrested a woman at the Cork-N-Bottle Liquor, 443 E. Main St., on a warrant and on suspicion of violating bail bond conditions that state she shall not possess or consume alcohol,
1:27 p.m. An officer took a report for theft in the 1000 block of E. Montezuma Ave.
1:12 a.m. An officer arrested a man on suspicion of DUI, driving an uninsured motor vehicle, driving a motor vehicle when license under restraint express consent, displaying expired number plates, displaying fictitious number plates, and possessing an open container in motor vehicle in the 900 block of N. Mildred Road.
9:55 a.m. An officer took a report of property damage by graffiti from blue spray-painted “MS-13” at Tipton Weber Wealth Management, 22 S. Washington St.
1:10 p.m. An officer took a report for an active fight in the 10 block of N. Park St. The fight was two heavily intoxicated men wrestling. One man was issued a trespass summons for violating a weeklong trespass order, and the other man was verbally trespassed for 24 hours from all city parks.
5:53 p.m. An officer cited a man with theft for changing price tags on merchandise he was attempting to purchase and issued the man a summons for violating a never-expiring trespass order.
