Thursday, Jan. 26

11:01 a.m., A report was made for an animal bite in the 900 block of Livesay Drive. An officer went to Southwest Memorial Hospital, 1311 N. Mildred Road, to speak with the woman who was bit. The woman stated her 12-week-old German shepherd bit her while playing, causing a 2-inch laceration. The woman had multiple scab-over injures from the dog. A 10-day quarantine period was imposed.

11:23 a.m., A woman backing up her truck in the parking lot of City Market, 508 E. Main St., ran into the side of a firetruck. The firetruck received a minor dent and scratch. The Cortez Fire Protection District requested no charges be pursued.

1:03 p.m., An report was made for an attempted burglary at Super Splash Car Wash, 1650 E. Main St. Video showed a man attempting to drill out the lock of a coin bays. The man was identified from previous contacts and was seen driving the same car and wearing the same clothes. A warrant is being sought for the man’s arrest.

3:30 p.m., A man driving east in the outside lane of the 400 block of West Main Street hit a FedEx truck on the passenger side. The man driving the FedEx truck turned onto West Main Street from a parking lot and crossed the turn lane, the inside lane and was partially in the outside lane when he was hit. The man driving the FedEx truck was issued a citation for careless driving.

4:47 p.m., A woman who had been indefinitely trespassed from Walmart, 1835 E. Main St., was reported refusing to leave. An officer cited the woman on suspicion of trespassing and escorted her off the property.

Friday, Jan. 27

8:18 a.m., A woman driving east in the 300 block of East Main Street was hit by a man attempting to make a U-turn from a parallel parking spot to drive Westbound on East Main Street. The woman’s car received severe damage on its passenger side and the air bag on that side did deploy. The man’s truck received minor damage to its front bumper. The man was cited for making an unsafe U-turn.

4:43 p.m., A report was made for a disturbance in the 400 block of South Madison Street. An officer heard a woman inside the residence screaming. The officer noted the smell of alcohol, and the woman stated she had been drinking. Two women outside the home claimed she had hit one of them in the face. When the officer and the two women questioned moved to the sidewalk, the woman approached an officer while yelling. The officer shoved her away twice, then handcuffed her and arrested her on suspicion of obstruction, resisting arrest, and underage drinking. A juvenile in the residence was watched over by an officer until the woman’s father returned.

5:00 p.m., A woman who had been indefinitely trespassed from Walmart, 1835 E. Main St., was cited for trespass and escorted from the building. The manager at Walmart requested that a man be indefinitely trespassed, and the officer did.

10:58 p.m., A man walking in the 800 block of East Main Street was arrested on four warrants.

Saturday, Jan. 28

11:09 a.m., A man was reported yelling and threatening people in the area of the Cortez Public Library, 202 N Park St. The man could not be found by officers. About 11:50 a.m., an officer spotted a man arguing with a duck in Parque de Vida, 400 N. Mildred Road. The provided his identification card and stated he was waiting to access a shelter. The man was arrested on a warrant, then released about 4 p.m.

12:55 p.m., A woman from Golden reported that her purse was missing and that last she had it was in Cold Stone Creamery, 215 S. Silgo St. The woman believes it was stolen, but no footage was immediately available from Cold Stone.

Sunday, Jan. 29

9:07 a.m., A disturbance was reported in the Walmart parking lot, 1835 E. Main St. An officer noted an RV that should not have been there. The officer cited two men in the RV for trespassing, and an officer in the O’Reilly’s parking lot nearby arrested the woman who made the report after she allegedly dropped a small bag of what appeared to be meth. She was cited on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance.

6:37 p.m., A woman who had been issued an indefinite trespass notice for Safeway, 1580 E. Main St., was reported in the store. An officer asked her to leave and she refused and called the officer obscenities. The store manager asked that charges be pursued. The officer cited her for trespassing and offered her a ride to the shelter if she stopped trying to enter the building. She accepted and was taken to the shelter.

8:49 p.m., A man inside City Market, 508 E. Main St., was arrested on a warrant.

Monday, Jan. 30

9:47 a.m., A woman reported that someone had broken into St. Barnabas of the Valley Episcopal Church, 110 W. North St., the night before. The church reported that a chime was missing, a door was damaged, and wax was spilled on a sofa. The leader stated he saw a man sleeping outside the door when he arrived to the church that morning. At 2:02 p.m., a man was arrested on a warrant in the 200 block of East Main Street. During his arrest, the chime was found in his pocket, and candle wax was seen on his jacket. The church requested charges to be pursued. The man said the chime was in the trash outside and the wax from candles he burns to keep warm at night. On Feb. 1, while the man was in custody of the Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St., he was served a warrant for burglary and criminal mischief.

2:09 p.m., A woman at the Montezuma County Combined Courts, 865 N. Park St., found a small amount of plastic-wrapped substance in a hallway. Court security turned the package over to an officer. A detective identified contents as a cannabis before disposing of it.

3:28 p.m., A man who had been trespassed from Front Row Seat, 610 E. Main St., was reported refusing to leave the property. The man was cited on suspicion of violating a trespass order and was escorted from the property.

3:48 p.m., A man was was arrested on a warrant for failing to appear after a man was reported sleeping in the lobby of Taco Bell, 1300 E. Main St.

4:50 p.m., A woman who had been issued an indefinite trespass notice for Walmart, 1835 E. Main St., was reported to have been in the store twice. The woman was found outside Dollar Tree, 215 S. Silgo St., and was cited for trespassing. The woman stated she had gone into the store in an attempt to warm up.

Tuesday, Jan. 31

12:31 a.m., An officer saw a car with two occupants in the parking lot of First Street Car Wash, 21 S. Harrison St. The officer spoke with the man and the woman in the car and found that the man had a warrant. The man was arrested on the warrant and after having his breath checked for alcohol the man admitted to drinking. The man was cited for violating a protection order that restricts him from possessing or consuming alcohol.

3:08 a.m., A man in the 100 block of Elm Street used a medical device to contact a care center to ask them to call the police regarding a robbery. An officer spoke with the man in his home, and the man said he believed his wife stole his phone and car to drive to Indiana in order avoid her upcoming court date.

5:37 p.m., A report was made for man who fell in the snow near the intersection of Park and Empire streets. An officer noted the man could not support himself and that his speech was limited. EMS arrived and took the man to the hospital. After the hospital released the man, he was arrested on suspicion of violating a protection order that restricts him from possessing or consuming alcohol.

1:13 p.m., A man with an indefinite trespass order for City Market, 508 E. Main St., was reported on the property. An officer found the man at gas pumps on the property. The man was cited for trespassing.
