Thursday, Sept. 29

4:45 a.m., A shed in the 400 block of Park Drive caught fire and was engulfed by the time two police officers arrived. One vacated resident of the surrounding houses and the other used a fire extinguisher to put out a fence that was starting to burn. One resident turned a garden hose onto the shed fire, and the fire department arrived shortly after to extinguish it.

5 a.m., Someone got into a car in the lower 100 block of South Elm Street and took a marriage license, two birth certificates and a Social Security card. All except the Social Security card were then left in a parking lot in the 100 block of West First Street.

6:13 a.m., A report was made for a windshield on a car that was shattered in the 200 block of East Seventh Street.

8:08 a.m. A report was made for the theft of a golf cart from the 2300 block of East Main street earlier that morning.

8:55 p.m., A car in the parking lot of LivWell (1819 E. Main St.) was hit by a truck that drove off. The owner stated they had just purchased the car and was actively getting insurance for it when this happened.

9:53 a.m., A report for a vehicle break-in was made as someone during the early morning had taken a sleeping bag from, and left court papers in, a van in the 600 block of North Washington Street.

10:44 a.m., Someone put graffiti on a shed at the Children’s Kiva, 1204 E. Empire St., with mostly illegible writing except for the phrase “IC3 B3RG.”

8:18 p.m., A report of a fight between three drunken people at the Happy Valley Trailer Park, 203 E. Seventh St., resulted in an arrest on suspicion of violating a protection order as one of the people involved was restricted by the order from drinking. An accusation that an officer raped one of the individuals involved in the fight was made during the arrest and was reported up to a sergeant.

Friday, Sept. 30

10:22 a.m., A man was arrested for warrant and given a citation for trespassing at the Ute Mountain Hotel, 531 South Broadway.

11:41 a.m., an officer served seven warrants across three people at the Montezuma County Detention Center.

1:45 p.m., A bicyclist failed to stop at a stop sign in the 1200 block of East Montezuma Avenue and was hit by a truck.

1:43 p.m., A man was given summons for trespass at the Davita Dialysis center, 610 Main St.

1:40 p.m., A truck ran into the back of a parked truck in the 700 block of East Main Street. The driver of the truck searched for the owner but when unsuccessful they left detailed information for the owner of the parked truck.

4:14 p.m., A man was arrested for trespassing at Cortez Glass, 328 W. Montezuma Ave.

8:23 p.m., A man was issued summons on suspicion of trespassing at Liquid Assets Liquor Store, 718 E. Main St.

9:07 p.m., A woman was arrested for a warrant in the 900 block of Driscoll Street.

Saturday, Oct. 1

3 a.m., A woman called the police as she believed she had been slipped drugs by someone when she was out drinking with a friend. When officers arrived to the 500 block of Chamblee Street, they found her in the passenger seat of an SUV and she was screaming. She got out of the SUV and threw a cellphone at an officer and got back into the SUV. When she would not get out again the officer tased her and was arrested on suspicion of interfering with an officer. She was believed by the officer to be affected by an unknown drug.

12:52 p.m., A man was arrested for a warrant at the Cortez Public Library, 202 N. Park St.

2:26 p.m., A stolen phone was turned over to the police after someone brought it to Walmart, 1835 E. Main St., to try and activate it.

3:07 p.m., A man was found asleep in the driveway of someone's driveway in the 2300 block of Pelota Drive and was arrested for a warrant.

7:54 p.m. A report of a woman yelling at a man in the 1900 block of east Main Street resulted in her arrest for a warrant.

10:15 p.m. A report of a man passed out in the parking lot of First Street Car Wash, 21 S. Harrison St., resulted in his arrest for two warrants and suspicion of violating his protection order that prevents him from drinking.

10:40 p.m., A man was arrested on suspicion of trespassing at City Market, 508 E. Main St., and was issued an indefinite trespass order.

Sunday, Oct. 2

5:13 a.m., A woman in the 1300 block of Animas Street was arrested on suspicion of menacing, intimidating a witness and harassment for threatening to slit her sister’s throat, for making more threats to her mom and sister after she was placed in handcuffs and for directing racial slurs toward a black officer.

5:22 p.m., A report was made for a traffic crash as someone backed a truck into parked car in the 200 block of South Silgo Street.

8:38 p.m., A man was issued summons for suspicion of violating an indefinite trespass order at the Cortez Dialysis Center, 610 E. Main St.

1:17 p.m. A request for a welfare check on a woman sitting on a sidewalk in the 900 block of East Empire Street resulted in her arrest for a probation violation warrant.

Monday, Oct. 3

1:57 a.m., A request made for a man to been given a courtesy ride from Southwest Memorial Hospital to his home by his wife. When police arrived, he was arrested for a failure to appear warrant.

6:44 a.m., A report was made for a vehicle break-in at the Day’s Inn (2600 E. Main St.) after someone noticed their change cup, head lamp and Zippo lighter were missing from their car.

11:31 a.m., An officer served a warrant to someone in custody of the Montezuma County Detention Center.

11:45 a.m., Someone was issued summons on suspicion of running a red light after running a red light in the 800 block of West Seventh Street and T-boning a car

5:35 p.m., An officer served a warrant to someone at the Montezuma County Detention Center.

5:47 p.m., A man was arrested at the Happy Valley Trailer Park, 203 E. Seventh St., for two warrants and for suspicion of violating a protection order by drinking after his mother called police and informed them she believed he was drinking.

6:52 p.m., A man reportedly hit someone in the face at City Market, 508 E. Main St., and was arrested on suspicion of violating a protection order that prevents him from drinking and suspicion of third-degree assault.

9:14 p.m., A report of a man trespassing at Happy Valley Trailer Park, 203 E. Seventh St., resulted in his arrest on suspicion of trespassing and for a warrant.

10:13 p.m., A man was arrested for a warrant after he was pulled over for driving on the wrong side of the road in the 1500 block of East Seventh Street.

Tuesday, Oct. 4

8:09 a.m., An officer served a warrant to someone at the Montezuma County Detention Center.

8:43 p.m., A man was issued summons on suspicion of trespassing at the Happy Valley Trailer Park, 203 E. Seventh St., after he was found sleeping on someone’s trampoline.

10:31 p.m., An officer served two failure to appear warrants to someone at the Montezuma County Detention Center.

Wednesday, Oct. 5

8:10 a.m., A man was issued summons on suspicion of trespassing at the Family Worship Center, 500 N. Washington St.

12:20 p.m., Someone reported to the Cortez Police Department nine fraudulent charges to their checking business checking account totaling $61,001.08 successfully charged and $38,023.00 denied. The Dolores State bank refunded the charges and closed the account.

6:20 p.m. A report of three people engaging in sexual behavior in the 500 block of East Main Street resulted in one of them, a woman, being arrested for a warrant in the 100 block of North Adams Street.

7:19 p.m., Someone reported damages to their car done in the 1400 block of Navajo Street.

9:19 p.m., A man was arrested on suspicion of violating a protection order that restricts him from drinking after he was seen walking walking in the road of the 700 block of South Broadway.
