Attempting to disarm an officer

10:07 a.m. An police officer came to Superior Auto on South Broadway because a caller reported a suspicious man standing outside the door. The man did not respond to any of the officer’s questions. The officer asked the man to sit down, and he squatted by the wall, according to the reports. But then he got up and lunged for the officer’s pistol after he had been told to stay back, according to a police report. The officer pushed the man up against the patrol, but he wouldn’t stop struggling. The officer pulled out his Taser and ordered him to lay flat on his stomach. The man was arrested for attempting to disarm a police officer. At the jail, he admitted to using methamphetamine.
Assault at Mr. Happy’s
Friday June 20
1 a.m. A man was arrested for assault after hitting another man over the head at Mr. Happy’s Bakery. The victim said the man slammed his head into a table. The suspect became angry after the man repeatedly took his seat, according to the report. The man was arrested after the police pulled over the SUV he was riding in, which allegedly was going 70 mph on Main Street. There were two small children in the back of the car. The woman driving the SUV was also arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, child abuse and failing to use proper child restraint.
Driving under the influence
Sunday June 22
10:30 p.m. A man was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol on the 200 block of Beech Street. The Montezuma County Sheriff’s Office requested the help of the Cortez Police Department in looking for a man in a blue Ford F-250 who may have hit his former girlfriend’s vehicle while she was in it. The police officer, acting on information that the man often carries a handgun, obtained assistance, and three police officers and a sergeant all helped with the arrest. All the officers had their guns drawn when the man was ordered to exit the car.
