Tuesday, Feb. 19

2:57 p.m.: A man was arrested on a failure to appear warrant and a protection order violation at a residence on the 700 block of Canyon Drive. Four police officers and a K9 partner were given permission to enter the home and found the man hiding under a bed.

3:22 p.m.: A man who was urinating in the street on the 800 block of Montezuma Ave. was cited for indecent exposure and asked if he had a place to stay. He said he could stay at his brother’s house. An officer told him to go there immediately.

Wednesday, Feb. 20

12:12 p.m.: A woman was cited for shoplifting $6.50 in merchandise from the Methodist Thrift Shop, at 444 E. Main St. She allegedly stole a hat, a bag and some jewelry. The store manager said she wanted to press charges because the woman was caught stealing the day before, but staff let her go.

6:43 p.m.: A man was cited for driving without insurance, displaying expired license plates and failing to obtain registration in 60 days. He was pulled over for expired plates and when asked if the registration was updated, the man held the title to the vehicle in his hand and said he was currently looking for a blue ink pen.

8:11 p.m.: A man driving a semitrailer puling a box trailer was cited for careless driving after knocking over a stop sign at the intersection of South Broadway and W. Fifth St.

Thursday, Feb. 21

2:04 p.m.: A man was arrested on a failure to comply warrant after police contacted him for parking in the fire lane on the 700 block of S. Broadway.

4:56 p.m.: A man driving a Ford F-150 knocked over a parking post in the Walmart parking lot, at 1835 E. Main St. He had a prosthetic right leg and said his foot got stuck on the gas pedal.

1:38 a.m.: A man was arrested for violating a protection order on the 100 block of W. Fifth St. The protection order states the man cannot consume alcohol, but he had three Coors Light cans in his sweatshirt and had to be medically cleared because of his level of intoxication.

Friday, Feb. 22

6:13 a.m.: A man driving a Chevy Silverado with a snowblade backed into a cement post at the Cortez Public Library parking lot, 202 N. Park St.

4:25 p.m.: A man was arrested on a Cortez municipal warrant while standing on the intersection of E. North St. and N. Harrison St.

Saturday, Feb. 23

7:39 p.m.: A man who was harassing an employee at the Speed Wash, at 1212 E. Main St., was arrested on two La Plata County warrants.

8:20 p.m.: A man was cited for careless driving after a U-Haul truck he was driving failed to clear the awning outside the Best Western Turquoise Inn, 535 E. Main St. He said the parking lot sloped upward and the top passenger corner of the U-Haul collided with the awning.

11:33 p.m.: A woman was arrested for criminal mischief and disorderly conduct after returning from a bar intoxicated with her 4-year-old daughter and breaking a window on the 700 block of E. Third St. Damage to the window is estimated at $450 to $600.

Sunday, Feb. 24

2:31 p.m.: A man was arrested on a Montezuma County warrant and a protection order violation in the Walmart parking lot, at 1835 E. Main St.

Tuesday, Feb. 26

9:18 a.m.: A man sleeping in the U.S. Post Office, at 35 S. Beech St., was told to leave. An officer learned the man had an active warrant and arrested him in front of Once Upon a Sandwich, 7 W. Main St.
