Wednesday, Jan. 22
11:48 a.m. An officer was in the 300 block of East Main Street when he took a man into custody from a bail bondsman. The man was intoxicated and arrested for violating terms of a protection order banning the consumption of alcohol. He was left in custody of Montezuma County Detention Center.
2:06 p.m. An officer was dispatched to the Cortez Public Library, 202 N. Park St., about a report of a suspicious person. An intoxicated man was arrested on an active warrant and left in custody of the Montezuma County Detention Center.
2:52 p.m. An officer was dispatched to the First Street Car Wash, 21 S. Harrison St., about a report of graffiti. The officer took a report and photographs of graffiti on the west wall.
3:10 p.m. An officer was dispatched to Walmart, 1835 E. Main St., about a report of a shoplifting. A man who could not prove proof of sale for two bottles of mouthwash was given a summons for shoplifting and violating a trespass notice banning him from the store.
3:39 p.m. An officer was called to the Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St., to take custody of a woman with an active warrant from a bail bondsman. The woman was arrested and left in custody of the jail.
4:39 p.m. An officer was dispatched to 445 N. Chestnut St., about a traffic crash. A mail van had hit a Kia Optima. The driver of the mail van said she was temporarily blinded by the sun and lost track of the Optima when she hit it.
5:07 p.m. An officer was called to Cortez Middle School, 450 W. Second St., about a report of a car window broken in the parking lot.
7:15 p.m. An officer stopped a vehicle in the 700 block of South Madison Street for an expired license plate. The driver was driving on a revoked license. He was arrested and left in custody of Montezuma County Detention Center.
9:18 p.m. An officer was dispatched to the Happy Valley Trailer Park, 203 E. Seventh St., about a stabbing. Officers discovered the stabbing occurred in a residence in the 400 block of South Chestnut Street. Blood was discovered on furniture, lamp shades and the floor. One man was sent to the intensive care unit at Southwest Memorial Hospital with a stab wound to the abdomen and lacerations on his face. One man was arrested on suspicion of first-degree assault. Another man was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit first-degree assault, second-degree assault, criminal impersonation and false reporting. A woman was arrested for second-degree assault, conspiracy to commit first-degree assault, obstruction of a peace officer and violation of a protection order. All the arrested parties were left in custody of the Montezuma County Detention Center.
Thursday, Jan. 23
10:49 a.m. An officer was dispatched to Walmart, 1835 E. Main St., about a reported shoplifting. A female employee had been detained, and the officer was shown several surveillance videos of the woman taking money from the register or failing to put customer’s money in the register and keeping it. According to the store, $3,340 had been stolen by the employee. The woman was arrested on suspicion of felony theft and left in custody of the Montezuma County Detention Center.
12:55 p.m. An officer was dispatched to the 800 block of South Chestnut Street. The officer filed a report about a woman who told the officer her brother had broken into her trailer and stolen a bag of dog food. The frame around the door to the trailer was damaged. The officer filed a report and was attempting to locate the man suspected in the theft.
6:16 p.m. An officer was dispatched to the 700 block of North Market Street about a complaint that one of the residents of a house brought in illicit drugs. After a search of a man’s backpack that discovered a bag suspected to be heroin, a man was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and left in custody of the Montezuma County Detention Center.
10:57 p.m. An officer was patrolling in the Happy Valley Mobile Home Park, 203 E. Seventh St., when he observed a door to a trailer open on a cold night. The officer knew a man who lived in the trailer had an active warrant and was frequently uncooperative with officers. The officer called for assistance. When the officer was near the front door, he heard the sound of a breaking a window. Other officers arrested the man, who was briefly tangled in the window frame before reentering the trailer. The man was arrested on suspicion of obstructing a peace officer, resisting arrest and two active warrants. He was left in custody of Montezuma County Detention Center.
Friday, Jan. 24
8:36 p.m. An officer was dispatched to the Sleeping Ute Apartments, 516 S. Madison St., about a report of someone banging on windows. A woman had an active warrant. She was arrested and left in custody of Montezuma County Detention Center.
Saturday, Jan. 25
12:53 a.m. An officer stopped a white van in the 200 block of Linden Street after witnessing the driver make several moving violations. The driver failed several roadside sobriety checks. He was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. He was also issued a summons for failing to signal in making a turn. At Montezuma County Detention Center, the man was issued a breath analysis that showed a blood-alcohol level of 0.324. The man was left in custody of the jail.
5:08 p.m. An officer was called to Parque de Vida, 400 N. Mildred Road, for a welfare check on a man and a woman. The woman was arrested for violating a protection order banning the consumption of alcohol. She was left in custody of Montezuma County Detention Center.
6:49 p.m. An officer was dispatched to a reported fight involving multiple individuals at Liquid Assets, 718 E. Main St. Four men were on scene, two of them with injuries. One of the injured men said the two uninjured men were beating up the third man. When he pulled them off the man, they turned on him and began beating him. The two uninjured men were arrested on suspicion of third-degree assault and left in custody of Montezuma County Detention Center.
Sunday, Jan. 26
2:21 a.m. An officer was dispatched to assist the Mancos Marshall’s Office in arresting a man on an active warrant from Texas. The man was arrested and left in custody of the Montezuma County Detention Center.
8:09 a.m. An officer stopped a vehicle in the 700 block of Stratton Drive after the license plate was linked to a car owner with a suspended license. A search of the vehicle discovered two baggies; one tested positive for methamphetimine and the other, for heroin. The man was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and for operating a motor vehicle without a valid license. A passenger in the car had an active warrant, and he was arrested as well. Both were left in custody of Montezuma County Detention Center.
1:44 p.m. An officer was dispatched to Walmart, 1835 Main St., on a report of a shoplifting. A woman was issued a summons for violating a trespass notice banning her from Walmart.
6:42 p.m. An officer was responding to Walmart, 1835 Main St., to follow up on another case when he was alerted to a shoplifting. A woman was being detained by employees for allegedly trying to shoplift a cart of merchandise totaling $720.89 in value. The woman was given a summons for shoplifting and issued a trespass notice banning her from Walmart.
Monday, Jan. 27
7:50 a.m. An officer was dispatched to the 800 block of Empire Street for a traffic accident. A semitrailer from Florida slid in snowy conditions and hit a light pole. The driver was issued a summons for careless driving for going too fast in snowy weather.
9:04 a.m. An officer was dispatched to the lobby of the Cortez Police Department, 608 N. Park St., to arrest a man on an active warrant. The man was arrested and left in custody of Montezuma County Detention Center.
5:11 p.m. An officer was dispatched to the 200 block of West Seventh Street about a report of an intoxicated man walking in the street. The man was issued a summons for underage consumption of alcohol.
6:07 p.m. An officer was dispatched to the 600 block of South Broadway about a report of a disturbance. A man was arrested on an active warrant and left in custody of Montezuma County Detention Center.
7:42 p.m. An officer was dispatched to the 400 block of West Seventh Street about two men who were refusing to leave a property. Upon arrival, the officer discovered one of the men walking in the road. The man was almost hit by two vehicles. The man appeared to be intoxicated. He was arrested for being intoxicated in a roadway. He was issued a breath analysis that showed a blood-alcohol level of 0.400. He was left in custody of Montezuma County Detention Center.
8:28 p.m. An officer was called to Walmart, 1835 E. Main St., about a shoplifting in progress. After several cans of Bud Light fell out of the man’s pants when talking to police he was issued a summons for illegal possession and consumption of alcohol by an underage person. He was also issued a summons for criminal trespass and theft. He was arrested and left in custody of Montezuma County Detention Center.
Tuesday, Jan. 28
8:09 a.m. An officer was on patrol in the 1700 block of East Seventh Street when he stopped a Dodge Ram 2500 for speeding. The driver was issued a summons for speeding. An passenger in the truck was arrested on two active warrants and left in custody of Montezuma County Detention Center.
2:34 p.m. An officer was dispatched to Montezuma County Combined Court, 865 N. Park St., to serve an active warrant to a woman. She was arrested and left in custody of Montezuma County Detention Center.
