Wednesday, June 10
8:30 a.m. A woman was cited on suspicion of driving with a suspended license and careless driving in the 1100 block of Cornett Street. She reportedly was using her knee to steer her car when it hit her neighbor’s house. She was suspected of being involved with a property hit-and-run case on Empire Street as well.
2:51 p.m. A woman was cited on suspicion of aggravated motor vehicle theft in the 10 block of North Sligo Street. She was driving a vehicle that had been reported stolen and claimed a friend had given it to her. She appeared to be under the influence of a controlled substance. The car was released to the owner.
Thursday, June 11
9:20 a.m. A woman allegedly attempted o break into a residence in the 100 block of South Harrison Street. The suspect’s description matched that of a woman who had been contacted in a stolen vehicle June 10 and had been reported to be breaking into other nearby residences in the past week. Officers will attempt to locate the woman to serve a citation for second-degree criminal trespass.
1:10 p.m. A driver backed his blue pickup into another vehicle in the Walmart parking lot, 1835 E. Main St. The driver of the truck gave the victim his card and drove away. Officers later contacted and him to collect additional information. No citations were issued.
Friday, June 12
7:52 a.m. A woman was cited on suspicion of first-degree criminal trespass and issued a trespass notice in the 700 block of North Market Street. The same women had been cited the day before, also for criminal trespass.
3:06 p.m. A man was cited on suspicion of robbery against an at-risk adult, third-degree assault and theft at City Market, 508 E. Main St. The man stole another man’s necklace, then assaulted and robbed and 76-year-old man and robbed another man near Cork ’N’ Bottle Liquor.
7:41 p.m. A man was cited on suspicion of operating an uninsured vehicle, displaying an expired license plate and driving with a suspended license. The vehicle was towed.
9:11 p.m. A woman was arrested on suspicion of DUI, prohibited use of a weapon and open container in the 2100 block of South Broadway. She failed to satisfactorily complete roadside maneuvers. A search of the vehicle revealed a loaded firearm and an open bottle of whiskey.
Saturday, June 13
9:06 a.m. A woman was cited on suspicion of careless driving and operating a vehicle without a valid license at Walmart, 1835 E. Main St. While backing out of a parking space, she struck a Walmart employee collecting carts and left the scene. Video surveillance recorded the incident. She was located at a campground in Dolores and cited.
11:51 p.m. A man was cited on suspicion of criminal mischief in the 900 block of Memorial Drive. Two men were involved in a verbal altercation. One of the man pulled a table saw off a saw horse, causing damage to it.
Sunday, June 14
9:15 p.m. A man was arrested on suspicion of violating a protection order in the 800 block of North Broadway. An officer pulled over a vehicle with a broken headlight and observed that the driver appeared to be under the influence of drugs. Dispatch confirmed a protection order for the passenger in the vehicle and the man was arrested.
9:40 a.m. A man was cited on suspicion of resisting arrest, obstructing a peace officer and theft at Walmart, 1835 E. Main St. The man allegedly took a cart of groceries out of the store without paying for them, then became aggressive when approached by an officer in a nearby field. The officer forcibly restrained him using oleoresin capsicum spray and putting him in a prone position. The jail refused to take custody because of COVID-19 restrictions, and the man was released after medical clearance.
Monday, June 15
7:14 a.m. A man’s truck was keyed in the 300 block of South Broadway. There were fresh scratch marks down both sides of the vehicle. The damage occurred sometime after 10:30 p.m. June 14. There were no suspects.
10:05 a.m. Graffiti was sprayed on the sidewalk in front of the Cortez Post Office, 35 S. Beech St., and a property in the 30 block of East Main Street. The graffiti included the phrases “BLM,” “BLM No Hate,” “No Oppression” and “No White Supremacy.” The case is under investigation.
