9:05 a.m. A woman was arrested in City Park, 802 E. Main St., on an outstanding warrant from San Juan County, New Mexico. She was left in the custody of the Montezuma County Detention Center.
1:31 p.m. A woman was issued a summons for shoplifting cat food at Walmart, 1835 E. Main St.
9:34 p.m. A woman reported an unattended bicycle in the 900 block of E. Empire St. The bicycle was placed in safekeeping at the Cortez Police Department, and the woman was told she could have the bicycle if no one claimed it.
Wednesday, May 15
10:21 a.m. A woman was arrested for shoplifting pork chops, bacon and cheese from Safeway, 1580 E. Main St., before allegedly stealing a friend’s car and driving to Walmart. She was cited for trespassing at Walmart and left in the custody of Montezuma County Detention Center.
11:50 a.m. A Toyota 4Runner with what appeared to be a Utah license plate was involved in several incidents of hitting vehicles in a parking lot in the 1500 block of Lebanon Road. The owner of one of the vehicles was working it out with the owner of the 4Runner after further investigation by the officer led to contact between the parties.
1:11 p.m. A woman was arrested for shoplifting several bottles of perfume from Walmart, 1835 E. Main St., and was wearing a necktie with a Walmart price tag. She was arrested and taken to Montezuma County Detention Center, where a breath-analysis test showed she had a blood-alcohol content of 0.368.
Thursday, May 16
8:43 a.m. An officer served a warrant to a man at Montezuma County Combined Court, 865 N. Park St. The man was left in the custody of the Montezuma County Detention Center.
Friday, May 17
8:06 a.m. Someone broke into the yard at Slavens True Value Hardware, 237 W. Main St. The officer asked if anything had been taken and was told an inventory would have to be conducted. Entry into the yard was accomplished by cutting through a barbed wire fence.
8:27 a.m. An inmate at the Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St., was served a warrant.
8:43 a.m. A man was served a warrant at Montezuma County Court, 865 N. Park St. The man was left in the custody of Montezuma County Detention Center.
3:09 p.m. A man was served an active warrant at Montezuma County Combined Court, 865 N. Park St., and left in the custody of Montezuma County Detention Center.
5:04 p.m. A man was served a warrant at Southwest Memorial Hospital, 1311 N. Mildred Road, and left in the custody of the Montezuma County Detention Center.
5:21 p.m. A woman reported vandalism on a shed in the 100 block of N. Harrison St. Someone had spray-painted “(expletive) all my haters” on the shed with black paint.
5:59 p.m. An officer was called to the 1300 block of Cottonwood Street because of an attacking dog. The officer contacted a woman, who stated she saw a husky attack and kill a neighbor’s cat. A smaller brown dog appeared to be involved as well. The owner of the dogs was identified through microchips in the dogs and through rabies vaccinations. The owner of the dogs was cited for keeping a vicious animal and allowing animals to run at-large.
11:29 p.m. An officer was called to the Valley Sun Village, 700 E. Second St., about a report of an elderly man being taken advantage of by teenagers. At Valley Sun Village, the officer made contact with a woman who was arrested for an active warrant. The woman was left in the custody of the Montezuma County Detention Center.
Saturday, May 18
1:34 a.m. A man was arrested in the 300 block of W. North St. for driving while ability impaired and running a stop sign. A breath-analysis showed a blood-alcohol level of 0.07. The man was picked up by a friend at the Cortez Police Department. The friend signed an intoxicated subject release form agreeing to be responsible for the arrested man for four hours.
11:24 a.m. An officer was called to Arby’s, 504 S. Broadway, about a woman who was slurring her words in the drive-thru. An officer noticed the woman walked unsteadily, smelled of alcohol and had bloodshot eyes, and asked her if she had anything to drink. When the woman said she had taken a drink at noon, the officer told her it was only 11:30 a.m. She told the officer it was “noon-thirty,” then was arrested on suspicion of DUI, medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital and taken to the Montezuma County Detention Center. At the jail, a breath test showed a blood-alcohol level of 0.273. She was left in custody of the jail.
7:42 p.m. A woman was arrested at the Cozy Inn, 440 S. Broadway, after she entered a room that was propped open by a fan to dry carpeting that had been shampooed. The woman refused to leave the room, claiming the motel offered rooms to the homeless as charity work. Employees disagreed, and she was arrested on suspicion of first-degree trespassing and left in the custody of the Montezuma County Detention Center.
Sunday, May 19
12:18 a.m. An officer was called to the Giant Station, 921 E. Main St., to conduct a welfare check on a man who was acting suspiciously and “making the cashier nervous.” The officer recognized the man from a previous encounter in which the man suspected “witches” were after him. The man was trying to use his EBT card to buy a snack. The man appeared to be having a conversation with a person who was not there. An officer escorted the man off the property and told him not to return. However, the casher called dispatch to report the man had returned. The officer arrested the man for trespassing and violation of bond conditions after discovering a marijuana pipe and burnt marijuana in a pocket on the man’s clothing. The man was left in the custody of the Montezuma County Detention Center.
1:37 p.m. A man was arrested on suspicion of DUI after an officer observed him driving a pickup truck unsteadily in the 1800 block of E. Main St. The man was taken to Southwest Memorial Hospital, where a blood test showed the man had a blood-alcohol level of 0.2. He was left in the custody of the Montezuma County Detention Center.
3:52 p.m. An officer was called to City Market, 508 E. Main St., by employees who suspected a man had shoplifted beer. The officer made contact with the man as he drank from a 24-ounce Bud Light can just north of Burger Boy. Another 24-ounce can was unopened. The man had returned to the store after being escorted off the premises and asked not to return. The man was arrested for shoplifting and trespassing and left in the custody of the Montezuma County Detention Center.
Monday, May 20
1:45 a.m. An officer was called to the 200 block of S. Pine Street on a noise disturbance. The officer made contact with a man after following loud bass music to an apartment. The man said he had fallen asleep with the music on, and he would turn it down. However, the man had an active warrant, and he was arrested and left in the custody of the Montezuma County Detention Center.
9:22 a.m. An officer issued an outstanding warrant to an inmate at the Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St.
