Saturday, April 4

3:34 a.m. An attempted theft of a motorcycle was reported in the 200 block of South Washington Street. As the officer approached, a man was observed lying under a Dodge Dakota with a firearm lying near him. The officer drew his weapon, and the man pushed the firearm away from him and the officer kicked it farther away. The man was handcuffed. The weapon was seized. The man who reported the incident said the suspect hit when a security light turned on. The man was issued a summons after the jail declined to house him because of COVID-19 restrictions. The man was released to a sober party.

11:30 a.m. Officers who had responded to a report of a verbal disturbance in the 600 block of North Elm Street at 10:11 a.m. returned to the address after a reported assault at 11:30 a.m. A man allegedly pushed a woman, causing her to hit her head, and threw boxes at her before leaving. When the man returned, he and stated that the woman tried to stop him from throwing out her things and pulled the box onto herself. He was issued a summons.

5:39 p.m. A man reported that his wife’s coworker intentionally coughed on her twice while at work at a grocery store in the 1500 block of East Main Street. The woman then said a male coworker intentionally coughed in her face from 2-3 feet away and again from 6-7 inches away. The officer spoke to the store manager, who said the store was investigating. A female witness stated the man was about 6 feet away when he coughed, and it sounded fake. The accused man said he never intentionally coughed on anyone. The case remains active.

7:38 p.m. An apparently intoxicated man allegedly trespassed and urinated on a property in the 400 block of Arbecam Avenue. An officer found him on the porch and apparent urine on the sidewalk. The officer requested that he leave, but he returned. Meanwhile, the officer learned that the man had a protection order that prohibited him from consuming alcohol. He returned to the residence, arrested the man, and had him medically cleared at the hospital and booked at the jail.

Sunday, April 5

11:34 p.m. An officer served an active felony arrest warrant to a man at the Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St.

Monday, April 6

12:57 p.m. A man reported that a woman broke his apartment window in the 100 block of East Main Street sometime between 7 p.m. Sunday and 12:57 p.m. Monday. The officer planned to contact the woman named in the report.

7:04 p.m. An officer responded to a disturbance in the 600 block of Wyoming Street, and found a man sitting on the patio, apparently intoxicated. After the man confirmed he was restrained from the property and from consuming alcohol, he was taken to jail.

10:07 p.m. Police responding to a fight in progress between a man and a woman at a residence in the 200 block of East Seventh Street found two men outside. One man had a bloody mouth, swollen lip and red eye. The other stated the injured man had come to his house after arguing with his wife. The wife followed him. She reportedly threw a barbecue grill off the porch and began hitting her husband when he tried to keep her outside. She was arrested, medically cleared at the hospital and then taken to the jail and issued a summons.

Tuesday, April 7

9:51 p.m. A possible burglary was reported at a fast food restaurant in the 400 block of East Main Street. The first officer at the scene began clearing the building. The grill had been turned on, and it appeared the suspect had started preparing food. A second officer observed a broken rear window. A third officer arrived and observed a man matching the description of the suspect being taken into custody. The man was identified as having been involved in multiple calls that night. He was refused entrance at the jail because of COVID-19 restrictions, then was served with a felony summons and left with hospital staff.
