8:22 a.m. A staff member at Southwest Memorial Hospital, 1311 N. Mildred Road, reported that she had made a fraudulent purchase of gift cards. She purchased the cards and then the suspect asked her to scratch off the codes and give the codes to the suspect. Her manager advised her to call police. An officer could not locate or identify a suspect.
Thursday, April 30
5:45 p.m. A disturbance was reported at the water dock in the 200 block of North Park Street. When en route to the scene, the officer received a report that two women were following another woman and had threatened to beat her up. The two suspects were contacted, and they reported all three women had been yelling at one other. Both women appeared to be intoxicated, and one, who had outstanding warrants and possessed a bottle of liquor, was taken into custody.
7:17 p.m. A man allegedly was assaulted with a metal bar by three other man at City Park, 830 E. Main St. Two officers separated the men. One man had a bloody ear and bump on his head and was taken to the hospital. The other men said they acted in self-defense and the victim had a knife. The victim stated he had not drawn the knife, which was found in his pocket. One alleged assailant was taken to jail because he had a protection order against consuming alcohol.
Friday, May 1
3:32 p.m. A woman reported a man was drinking alcohol near the public pool, but an officer found no alcohol. Later, she reported the man, whom the court had barred from drinking alcohol, bought alcohol at a store in the 700 block of East Main Street. An officer took the man, who claimed he had COVID-19, into custody and confiscated a hatchet and knife. After a positive alcohol test, he was taken to jail.
6:21 p.m. A crash involving a riding lawn mower and a parked car occurred in the 500 block of North Washington Street. The woman with the man on the mower said she believed the main had a seizure, causing the crash. The man wasn’t sure. He was cited and taken to the hospital.
9:51 p.m. A resident in the 100 block of South Linden Street reported he had fraudulent charges on his credit card in California. Evidence of the fraudulent charges were collected.
Saturday, May 2
6:54 a.m. Vehicle damage was reported at a motel in the 500 block of East Main Street. The front cover of a Jeep had been ripped off. The next day, a man reported his trailer hitch had snagged the Jeep’s bumper as he backed out of the lot, which was confirmed by surveillance video. He was cited for unsafe backing and leaving the scene.
2:27 p.m. An alleged trespasser in the 600 block of Washington Street, who had been given a trespass notice that morning, was cited and taken back to his residence.
9:24 p.m. Two officers responded to an officer-in-trouble call at 6:19 p.m. in the 400 block of North State Street. A trooper and state patrol officer were detaining a man when the officers arrived, and the detained man was arrested on suspicion of stealing a Ford Ranger pickup truck from a car dealership. The suspect was released from jail because of COVID-19 restrictions, and taken to his mother’s house. At 9:24 p.m., officers saw broken glass door at the dealership and found a shoe print on the glass. The suspect in the theft was arrested in the 24000 block of Road G.2. His shoes matched the shoe print at the dealership. He was jailed on several charges.
10:12 p.m. A black Ford SUV was found with front-end damage on the frontage road in the 2100 block of South Broadway. The female driver said she had fallen asleep while driving, swerved to avoid a telephone pole and hit a fence, the weigh station sign and a concrete culvert. She provided her license, registration and insurance information, was cited, and was given a ride to a motel.
11:43 p.m. A fight was reported in the 400 block of Kansas Street. EMS treated an apparently intoxicated man for a bleeding arm. When questioned, the man started to run away, then threatened to cut his wrists with his knife. The officer took the man to the ground and handcuffed him, then took him to jail.
Sunday, May 3
10:47 p.m. A man was cited and taken to jail after a domestic disturbance at a hotel in the 1100 block of East Main Street. When officers arrived, a woman was on scene, crying in front of a van with a broken windshield. She stated she and her husband had been arguing, and he left the room and apparently broke the glass. The man denied it, but was cited, taken to the hospital for medical clearance because of intoxication and then taken to jail.
Monday, May 4
8:21 a.m. A license plate was reported stolen in the 1300 block of Jackson Street between 3 and 8 p.m. on May 2.
11:35 a.m. Theft was reported in the 600 block of East Second Street. Reported missing were a medical torso model, 12 to 15 laptops and a two-drawer file cabinet containing employee information. The items were last seen one to two weeks ago. A business representative suspected a former employee, who reportedly had resigned without notice and tried to gain entry April 27. Surveillance video was not available.
11:57 a.m. A backpack found in a resident’s backyard was turned in at the Police Department, 529 W. Fourth St. It contained a cell phone, alcohol, an ID and a small bag containing meth.
12:08 p.m. An officer conducted a welfare check on a man who had fallen down near North Park Street and Montezuma Avenue. After dispatch confirmed he had a protection order against consuming alcohol, he was arrested and transported to the hospital for medical clearance. On the way to jail, he allegedly kicked the doors and windows of the patrol car.
4:26 p.m. An officer responding to a report of the theft of a blue Chevy from a gas station in the 2300 block of East Main Street found the vehicle across the highway at a residence in the 2400 block of Trinity Avenue. Video surveillance later revealed that the Chevy’s driver apparently left the vehicle to go inside the gas station, but did not set the Chevy’s brake or gear. The Chevy them rolled across the highway and crashed into the home and blue Jeep Liberty at the Trinity Avenue residence. The Chevy owner was issued a citation.
Tuesday, May 5
10:10 p.m. A Cortez woman wanted to press charges against a man had not returned the car she loaned him the night before. Her OnStar account showed the car was in Waterflow, N.M. Shiprock Police found the car at a residence and had it towed. Charges are pending.
