Sunday, Dec. 31

4:48 a.m.: A woman was arrested in the 400 block of South Ash Street on suspicion of domestic violence, third-degree assault, harassment and child abuse after a neighbor reported sounds of yelling and crying coming from his apartment. The woman reportedly told police she had hit her boyfriend, who had a protection order prohibiting him from contacting her, during an argument while their four young children were present. The boyfriend was also arrested on a warrant and on suspicion of domestic violence, violation of a protection order and child abuse. Both were cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital due to intoxication. The man had cuts on his head.

10:47 p.m.: A woman was arrested in the 200 block of Maple Street on a warrant for failure to appear on a local misdemeanor charge.

Monday, Jan. 1

12 a.m.: A man was arrested outside National Nine Motel, 301 W. Main St., on suspicion of violating bond conditions after he called police to ask for a ride to a gas station. He was cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital due to intoxication.

4:11 a.m.: A man was arrested in the 500 block of West Fourth Street on suspicion of DUI and DUI per se after police responded to a report of a vehicle driving on the wrong side of the road. When responding officers located the man’s vehicle, it was reportedly parked on the lawn of a residence and he was attempting to get out while the engine was running. The man was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital due to intoxication.

Tuesday, Jan. 2

12:29 a.m.: Police responded to a report of property damage at Walmart, 1835 E. Main St. A man reported one of his truck’s tires had been removed sometime between 7 and 11 p.m. while he was at work. Walmart security videos reportedly did not capture anyone tampering with the vehicle during that time. The case remains under investigation.

1:37 a.m.: A man was arrested in the 10 block of West Main Street on a warrant for failure to appear on a local misdemeanor charge and on suspicion of an open container violation after police noticed him stumbling on the sidewalk with a bottle of vodka in his pocket. He was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital due to severe intoxication.

9:32 a.m.: A man was arrested at Burger Boy, 400 E. Main St., on suspicion of shoplifting and disturbing the peace after City Market employees reported a man matching his description had stolen a 30-pack of beer. When officers contacted him, the man was reportedly urinating in an alleyway, for which he was also placed under arrest.

7:07 p.m.: A woman was arrested in the parking lot of Front Row Seat, 610 E. Main St., on two warrants for failure to appear on local misdemeanor charges and on suspicion of violating a protection order and false reporting to authorities after police responded to a report of a fight between her and five other people in the area. There were no apparent injuries in the fight, and witnesses could not agree on what had happened. The woman reportedly gave a false name to officers, but one recognized her from previous contacts. A man was also arrested on three Cortez municipal warrants. Both suspects were cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital due to intoxication.

7:29 p.m.: A woman was served with a warrant for failure to appear on a misdemeanor charge at Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St.

8:57 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 300 block of West Main Street on three warrants for failure to comply on local misdemeanor charges and on suspicion of violating a protection order. He was cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital due to intoxication.

11:39 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 500 block of South Linden Street on suspicion of driving under restraint, obstruction and driving with an obscured windshield after he was pulled over for driving with large cracks in his front windshield. When the vehicle was pulled over, it reportedly hit a fence near a residence on the road, and the driver and front passenger both switched seats and began to reach around and underneath their seats. A police officer drew his gun and ordered the passenger to put his hands on the dashboard. The other passengers in the vehicle reportedly said the driver was trying to get away from officers because he was on probation and didn’t want to go back to jail.

Wednesday, Jan. 3

12:32 a.m.: A man was arrested in the alley behind Blondie’s Trophy Room, 45 E. Main St., on suspicion of violating a protection order after police responded to a report he was harassing female customers leaving the bar. When contacted by officers, he was reportedly lying on the ground with a broken beer bottle under him. He was cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital due to intoxication. At the jail, he reportedly refused to get out of the patrol car, and an officer pulled him out by his collar.

10:47 a.m.: A woman was arrested in City Park, 802 E. Main St., on three warrants for failure to appear on local misdemeanor charges.

3:40 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 300 block of East Main Street on suspicion of violating a protection order after police responded to a report that he was intoxicated in the area. He was transported to Southwest Memorial Hospital for treatment due to severe intoxication.

3:54 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 500 block of North Chestnut Street on a warrant for failure to appear on a local misdemeanor charge after a vehicle in which he was a passenger was pulled over for failing to stop at a stop sign. He reportedly gave a false name to police at first, but his father, the driver, told them his real name.

10:12 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 800 block of South Chestnut Street on suspicion of third-degree assault, resisting arrest and violating a protection order after police responded to a report of a fight between him and another man. During the arrest, he reportedly tried to pull away from the officers and headbutt one. An officer swung him onto the ground by his arm while the other grabbed his legs. When a marijuana pipe was found in the man’s pocket, he reportedly tried to stomp on it and spit at an officer who was holding him. He reportedly continued to resist while he was being placed in a patrol car, leading officers to put a spit hood over his head and expose him to a stun gun. He was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital before being taken to jail, due to the use of the stun gun.

Thursday, Jan. 4

1:53 p.m.: A man was arrested in City Park, 802 E. Main St., on suspicion of third-degree assault and disorderly conduct after police responded to a report of a fight between him and another man. He had reportedly punched a man for throwing a bottle at a woman. The other man was taken to Southwest Memorial Hospital for treatment of facial injuries and a loose tooth. The suspect was cleared at the hospital due to intoxication.

4:16 p.m.: A man was arrested at Montezuma Combined Courts, 865 N. Park St., on a warrant for failure to appear on a local misdemeanor charge.

6:21 p.m.: Police responded to a report of an assault at City Market, 508 E. Main St. Witnesses reported seeing a man hitting a woman outside the store. A man who fit witnesses’ description denied the assault, and the woman claimed another woman had assaulted her. The woman was reportedly intoxicated and could not give much detail. She was transported to Southwest Memorial Hospital for treatment of injuries. The case is under investigation.

Friday, Jan. 5

12:47 p.m.: A woman was arrested in the 400 block of North Park Street on a warrant for failure to appear on a local felony charge.

2:23 p.m.: A man was issued a summons on suspicion of shoplifting at Walmart, 1835 E. Main St. Store employees claimed he had eaten $8.49 worth of deli items without paying.

3:45 p.m.: Police responded to a report of shoplifting at Walmart, 1835 E. Main St. Store employees claimed a woman had stolen a hoverboard. Employees said they had been able to identify the suspect from security videos and previous trespassing incidents, but police were unable to contact her right away. The case remains under investigation.
