Plewe leads Bears in Fruita

Sophomore golfer shoots career round, takes top honors
Kiselya Plewe watches a shot in practice earlier this year. She shot a five-under par this week to win the Montrose Tournament.

Thanks in large part to sophomore Kiselya Plewe, the Dolores High School girls golf team is making a name for itself in the high school golfing community.

Opening their season on March 17 at the Adobe Creek National Golf Course the Bears shot a total score of 334 to place them in the middle of the 18-team tournament.

The biggest story of the day, however, was that of Plewe, who, putting together a five-under par round of 67, took top individual honors at the tournament.

"I was putting really well," Plewe told the Grand Junction Sentinel after her round. "I made a lot of long putts, I had a couple of good saves, I hit my drives well, and I was hitting my irons well."

Also playing for Dolores were Keyana Matteson and Abigail Smith.

Next up for the Bears will be a tournament in Kirtland, N.M., on April 7.
