The holiday season gets into full swing this beginning this weekend in Dolores. Following is a sampling of the events.
Christmas bazaar
On Saturday, Dec. 5, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Dolores Community Christmas Bazaar features arts and crafts, ornaments, baked goods, gift items, door prizes and much more from vendors in Dolores, Cortez, Mancos, Bayfield, Farmington, Grand Junction, and Blanding.
Dress up party
On Dec. 5, the Fourth Street Girls and the Ginger Jar are having a Christmas open house and costume party. This year the theme is a 50’s dress up party celebrating 50 years of the Charlie Brown Christmas. There will be prizes, great sales, food and drink. The event is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 200 S. 4th Street.
Dolores Brewery craft show
On Dec. 5 the Dolores River Brewery will have its annual holiday craft show with multiple artists selling wares. The all day event offers beer sales while you shop and there will be live music.
Shop Local
The weekend after Thanksgiving also represents the beginning of the Shop Local, Shop Dolores merchant campaign, Nov.28 to Dec. 19. Win Dolores Dollars for every $10 you spend. The drawings for Dolores Cash will be Dec. 5 ($100), Dec. 12 ($200) and Dec. 19 ($300).
Santa comes to town
On Dec. 12, the Galloping Goose Historical Society will host Santa for the kiddos. Local kids and families are invited to come down to the train depot and sit on the Goose for storytime, Santa time, treat bags, hot cocoa, cookies and possibly caroling.
Put up your lights for prizes
The All Town lighting contest is underway. Judging will take place on Dec. 19 for residential and commercial categories. Top winners earn credit on their electric bill or win Dolores Dollars.
Dolores Christian Child Care is collecting new unwrapped toys and books for children ages 1-12. Please drop off the toys during business hours Nov. 27 through Dec. 18 at Riverside Convenience Store, Dolores State Bank, Ponderosa Restaurant and The Pony Expresso. If your family needs help, call Debbie at 882-2446 after 5:30 p.m.
Noel night in Rico
Up the road in Rico, Noel Night is from Dec. 4-6. There will be craft fairs, bake sales, bonfires, sales, and Santa will be at the Rico Hotel. On Dec. 4, the Artists of Rico host their First Annual Christmas Pop-up Shop for holiday shopping at the Great Room of the Rico Hotel from 5–9 p.m. Enjoy refreshments and hor d’oeuvres while mingling with local artists and enjoying music.
