Students wish Sanford fond farewell

When Ann Sanford was introduced at the beginning of the Dolores Elementary School Physical Education Extravaganza last week, hundreds of people got to their feet to cheer.

For Sanford, Thursday's performance was the last. Sanford will retire at the end of this school year, after being the P.E. teacher for 26 years.

Sanford got teary-eyed when kindergartners sang "Tony Chestnut Knows I Love You."

Students started the night with a flash mob dance to "Thriller," and continued with additional dances. First-graders performed with hula hoop to the song "The Lion Sleeps Tonight." Second-graders performed a parachute routine to "The Bubble Gum Song," and third-graders performed a cup-stacking routine.

Fourth-graders performed complex leg work with jump bands, and fifth-graders showed off basketball skills and a May Pole dance.

The evening ended as lights were dimmed, and the students, led by Principal Sherri Maxwell, ran the "Dot-to-Dot" with glowing flashlights.
