A car hit and killed a pedestrian Thursday night on U.S. Highway 550, north of Durango.
Colorado State Patrol Master Trooper Gary Cutler said the crash was reported around 8:15 p.m. at about milepost 27, just south of the Alpen Rose RV Park and River Bend Ranch. The highway was closed shortly after.
An initial report says a car hit a female pedestrian, who died as a result of her injuries.
Cutler did not have more information about the crash or the identities of those involved.
As of 9 p.m., there was no estimated time for reopening Highway 550. Cutler said CSP’s victim crime unit was expected to arrive at the scene, which could take “at least” three to four hours before the highway could be reopened.
