‘Pay (accordingly) for international educators’

RE: The editorial on Wednesday, “International teachers good hires.” Both my wife and I are retired international educators. We earned our degrees, a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree, in the states. But not long into our careers working stateside, we understood that working overseas was much more rewarding than working in the United States. Long story short, we brought something to education outside the U.S. that people expected from educators (and paid accordingly).

Conversely, our community should be willing to pay (and pay accordingly) for international educators that would like to work here! Offer inviting contracts (nuclear family included), fast-track visas, orientation for new hires and family support. You want a crew? Build one! Otherwise, go teach ninth-grade algebra!
