The Republican and Democrat caucuses will be on March 7 at various precinct locations across the county.
Democrat caucuses begin at 2 p.m. with a 1:30 p.m. check-in, and Republican caucuses begin at 10 a.m.
At precinct caucuses, political parties gather to nominate and elect delegates who attend the general assembly and vote which candidates make the June 30 primary ballot. It is possible to petition onto the primary ballot as well.
The General Assembly for Republicans is March 20, at 6 p.m. at the Montezuma County Annex.
The General Assembly for Democrats is March 21 at 9:30 a.m. at the Montezuma County Annex.
Montezuma County has 11 precincts, and each has its own caucus for both parties.

A separate multidistrict General Assembly will be held for the 22nd Judicial District Attorney election. For Republicans, it will also be held March 20 at the county annex.
“We encourage participation in the caucuses because they are the grassroots process of the election system,” said Danny Wilkin, Montezuma County Republican Committee chair. “Voters can become delegates and help get their preferred candidates on the primary ballot.”
At the county General Assemblies, there also is an opportunity for delegates to be chosen to participate at the Colorado 58th District House of Representative General Assembly and at the state General Assembly.
Three elected positions in Montezuma County that will be on the Nov. 3 general election ballot: the District 2 and 3 seats for Montezuma County Commission and District Attorney for the 22nd Judicial District covering Montezuma and Dolores counties.
To date, six Republicans are running for the Montezuma County Board of County Commissioners. James Lindsay, Allan Randolph and Danny Wilkin are running for District 2, and Monty Guiles, Tim Hunter and Joel “Joe” Stevenson are running for District 3.
Assistant District Attorney Matt Margeson, a Republican, is the only candidate running for 22nd Judicial District Attorney.
