Panthers wrap up regular season at Tiger Invitational

Wagner and Wood earn Top 3 finishes

Looking to close out their regular season with a bang, the Montezuma-Cortez High School boys and girls track team traveled to the Tiger Invitational in Grand Junction, May 5-6, and enjoyed positive results.

On the boys side, the Panthers were led by senior Austin Wagner, whose mark of 44 feet, 8¾ inches was good enough for second place in the triple jump. Wagner also placed third in the long jump (20 feet, 9 inches).

Also cracking the Top 5 for the Panthers were senior Coby Baer, who placed third in the long jump (44 feet, 8¾ inches) and Micah Hightower, who crossed the line fifth in the 110-meter hurdles (16.60).

Top 10 finishers for the boys team included Skylar Yarbrough, who finished sixth in the high jump (5 feet, 11 inches), Cael McHenry, who placed seventh in the 300-meter hurdles (44.45) and Blair Rice, who crossed the line seventh in the 110-meter hurdles (16.86).

On the girls side, the Panthers were led by Ashley Wood, who placed second in the 300-mter hurdles (51.30) and fifth in the 100-meter hurdles (17.82).

Morgan Short and Anna Bullock also cracked the Top 5 with fifth-place finishes in the long jump (15 feet, 5¼ inches) and the 200-meter dash (28.70), respectively.

Bullock also placed eighth in the 100-meter dash (13.96), while Trinity McCain finished ninth in the high jump (4 feet, 9 inches) and Kaeleen Boggs placed ninth in the triple jump (26 feet, 6 inches).

Next up for the M-CHS track teams will be the Colorado Class 3A State Championships, which will take place at Jeffco Stadium in Lakewood, May 18-20.
