Panthers volleyball team falls to Monticello

M-CHS prepares for Regional tourney in Longmont

After defeating Durango last week, the Montezuma-Cortez High School volleyball was hoping to close out its regular season with a win in Monticello on Oct. 23.

A victory was not to be for the Panthers however, who, failing to find their rhythm, lost 25-20, 25-17, 25-19. With the loss, M-CHS dropped to 13-9 on the season, while Monticello improved to 20-6.

Naomi Pinnecoose led the Panthers with six kills and eight digs. Laurel Chappell finished with seven digs and 13 assists.

Next up for M-CHS will be the Class 4A Region 7 Tournament, which will take place at Mead High School in Longmont on Nov. 1. M-CHS will enter the three-team Region 7 tournament as the 18th seed in the state.

Also in the Region 7 tournament will be 7th-seeded Mead High School and 30th-seeded Evergreen High School. The winner of the Region 7 Tournament will advance to state.

“We can definitely go to state if we keep our energy up,” said M-CHS senior Abby Chupp. “When we play together, we’re hard to beat.”
