The Panthers have become a fixture in the 3A state golf championships.
A year after making second-round improvements to finish 13th in the state tournament, the Panthers made another Day 2 push on Wednesday to move up the leaderboard and claim 14th place as a team at The Broadlands Golf Course in Broomfield.
A pair of state tournament veterans helped inspire the move, as sophomore Chesnie Patrick posted consistent rounds of 96 and 95 to earn a two-day total of 191, good for a tie for 27th. Patrick found success on the short holes in her two rounds, finishing six-over par for the tournament on the par 3s.
As for her teammates, junior Ashlyn Hall made her state tournament debut an impressive one, as she surged to a strong back nine on Day 1, including a par-birdie-par stretch to help her to a 104. Day 2 proved to be steady, as Hall punched home a pair of pars to score a 107 and a two-day score of 211, which earned her a tie for 56th.
Senior Sariah Robinson capped her M-CHS golf career by making a big jump from Day 1 to Day 2, improving by 12 strokes. Making her second state appearance, her final nine holes of the tournament included a pair of pars on the 11th and 12th holes to spur a closing 51, her best sequence of the tournament. Robinson's two-day score of 235 earned her a tie for 73rd.
The team moved up the leaderboard on Day 2, climbing to 14th with a score of 637. St. Mary's Academy earned both the medalist honors with the top individual and team scores, as Pirates sophomore Maddy Bante shot an even-par 144 to win the title by four strokes. The Pirates easily won the team crown as well, outdistancing Prospect Ridge by 43 shots to earn their second consecutive team title.
