Even with star player Haydan Plewe out with a minor injury, the Montezuma-Cortez High School golf team did not miss a beat. Competing in Pagosa Springs on Aug. 22, the Panthers won their second straight tournament, besting 7 teams in impressive fashion.
Senior Jakob Rudosky was again on target, shooting a 68 on the always-difficult Pagosa course. Junior Levi Gross finished second on the team with an 81, while junior Triston Shelby looked good for the second straight tournament, firing an 82.
Also playing impressively for the Panthers was sophomore Ryan Aiken, whose score of 84 did not go unnoticed by head coach Micah Rudosky.
“Ryan played just fine,” said Rudosky. “He’s playing good golf. If we take two holes away he’s in the 70s.”
Rounding out the varsity scoring for the Panthers was Nathaniel Baker who shot a 98.
Speaking about his team’s performance, Rudosky stated, “The team played great. Pagosa is a narrow course. The guys are finally shooting some scores and they are getting consistent.”
Looking to continue their impressive run, the Panthers will be back in action on Aug. 29 in Montrose.
