It’s unfortunate that the award-winning, alternative monthly Four Corners Free Press in Cortez is closing. The paper brought in-depth, regional news coverage and lively, broad opinions to Montezuma County and beyond.
It will be missed.
Gail Binkly and her husband, writer David Long, and business partner, Wendy Mimiaga, valued covering public lands and development, and county commissioners, as well as taking the pulse of Cortez and surrounding communities.
Columnists often made personal stories the starting point for both gentle and provocative commentary on local and national issues, and life in general.
The Free Press was clearly a journalistic labor of love and elevated local issues deserving of more attention. The Southwest was fortunate to have the Free Press.
