One person was killed in a single-vehicle crash Thursday morning on La Plata County Highway about 2 miles north of the New Mexico state line, according to the Colorado State Patrol.
The crash was reported at 8:26 a.m. near mile marker 2 on Colorado Highway 140, where a vehicle rolled 30 feet down an embankment, said Master Trooper Gary Cutler.
“We were advised that the roads were very icy,” he said.
Three children were removed from the vehicle and received care, Cutler said.
Capt. John Trentini in Durango said the driver, a woman, was killed in the crash. The children had “rather minor injuries,” he said.
No further information was immediately available, including the make of the vehicle, the direction it was heading, or the cause of the crash.
It was not known whether Colorado 140 was closed because of the crash.
