One person was killed and multiple people were taken to a hospital Wednesday afternoon after a car crash on Mancos Hill, west of Durango.
The crash was reported about 3:30 p.m. near mile marker 60 on U.S. Highway 160. As of 5 p.m., traffic was delayed with alternating lane openings.
Law enforcement did not immediately have further information about the identity of the person who died, the cause of the crash or those who were taken to Mercy Regional Medical Center, said Josh Lewis, spokesman for Colorado State Patrol.
“They are on scene, but just getting started with the investigation,” Lewis said.
Based on initial reports, two vehicles were involved in the crash, which took place about 2 miles west of the Montezuma-La Plata county line. At least two people were taken to the hospital, Lewis said.
Colorado State Patrol was the lead agency, with the Colorado Department of Transportation, emergency medical and fire services also at the scene, Lewis said.
It is the third incident this month on Mancos Hill. Last week, a New Mexico woman was injured in a single-vehicle crash on Mancos Hill at mile marker 62. On July 1, a married couple was found dead in a parked car in the same area, about 100 feet west of the La Plata County line.
