Old Fort at Hesperus offers online auction

Aly Kellogg, a member of the Farmer in Training Program, stands before her plot at the Old Fort at Hesperus. Kellogg is one of three farmers in the program.

The Old Fort at Hesperus recently launched an online silent auction to benefit its Farmer in Training Program. The program allows prospective farmers to co-manage a plot of land with assistance from Old Fort staff.

The cost of new equipment, including a hand-operated seeder, rototiller, tractor cultivator, tractor tool-bar, propagation space, sowing trays and row cover exceeds the current budget, and the online auction has been created to raise funds.

To bid, visit www.fortlewis.schoolauction.net/oldfortfarmer and select “Sign Up” to create an account. Use the new username and password to log in and select “Catalog” to view items, descriptions, minimum bid values and bid increments.

After the auction closes at 5 p.m. Aug. 4, an email will be sent with information about the items won, and pickup or delivery options can be arranged. Some items cannot be shipped.
