‘Nothing that is unmitigated fire threat’

My wife and I just received a notice that our property insurance is increasing by 32%. Staggered by the increase, I spoke with our insurance agent, who explained that the company is justifying the increase because the insurance provider designated our area as a “high fire risk.”

Our property is surrounded by several hundred acres of irrigated alfalfa fields. No stands of trees and nothing that is an unmitigated fire threat. The insurance company declares a threat, raises premiums according to a created algorithm created, and we pay out. A lot.

Seriously people, where are the elected officials we chose to represent us?
