Natural predators ‘good’ for landscapes

In The Durango Herald on Sat., July 2, Andrew Gulliford pointed out that wolves manage their own herds through migration. Also wolves are what is known as a “keystone” or “apex” species that cull plant-eating herds naturally. They hunt down the weaker members. Research shows that areas where keystone species are removed are overgrazed. Before and after photos show barren areas. They become lush landscapes when predators are allowed to stay. Natural predators are good for healthy meadows and forests.
